Ok, what is a die clash and will it look anything like doubling? Studying Morgan VAMs and and on one coin they talk about doubling and die clash. Thx, Jim

I believe you will see in some case images from the oposite side of the coins sort of show through the the other side almost like a ghost image . I do not know if this is the case all of the time, I am sure though some one will be able to tell you the best answer either Meatlman, coppercoins, errorcoins , SwamperBob are a few Who might be able to answer you better and when it comes to Vams I would say Bryan1315 , and Superdave

1. A die clash occurs when the dies slam together with no planchet in between them, which can cause them to leave impressions on each other, which will then be transferred to subsequent coins that are struck. So you may actually see backwards partials of reverse details on the obverse and/or vice versa.

2. No, unless it's an extreme coincidence.

I *think* it's Becky that has a great diagram of how Morgan clashes are set up. Shows what would be where on the other side.

Here is an example of a die clashed Mercury dime.

While Morgans are some of the most studied of the US coins ,,die clashing can occur on any coin or series.
