I received this nickel in change and am curious as to why there would not be a raised rim. Is it from wear? It seems pretty even.

rim has been ground down, or stuck on a dime planchet (how thick is it compared to a dime?),

clear pics would help

Not struck on a dime planchet, just artificially worn. If it were struck on a dime planchet, it would be smaller, some of the details would be stretched, and, more than likely would not be completely centered.

It is definitely thicker than a dime.

A small digital scale would be useful for things like this. If it is underweight, then definitely PMD.

Is that a flat mark on the beaver's butt? Lay a flat edge across both rim areas and passing over the beaver's behind -- if they're all dead even then it most likely was ground.
