I just watched a beautifully portrayed Walking Liberty half sold on ebay. The rainbow luster was excellent. I then went to the sellers site and was amazed at the different type and age coins all exhibiting the same type luster.

How would a collector get such a collection of rainbow GEM coins and sell them at fairly cheap prices?

just guessing, I would bet the rainbow luster or toning was from the coins being heat treated. If that's the case, they would probably not be worth more than melt price.

I'm unable to figure a link with this iPad, but the ebay seller is named 'usanumismatics'. If the coins are legit, they're beautiful.

160845692525. The auction is over. The seller has numerous examples though.

I am sticking with heat treated. On other items, you can almost see marks of how they were held in the flame. And toning on both sides of a coin rarely match like theirs do.

Ummm, everybody, it's kind of important to read the descriptions:

As this example is not showing the vibrant colors do you think it is natural toning or artificial?

He's ruined what would be some otherwise really nice coins. But I guess it's all about the money.

There's a bunch of sellers on ebay that do this. Thankfully, they don't do it to high valued coins, but I agree, the markup definitely isn't worth it.
