Was just scrolling through the listings and saw this one. My Charlton only goes up to MS64 for this variety.

Be careful. In general, once the catalog publishes something, many people start looking for it. The coin may, or may not, be rare in high grades. Five cents are not my series, so I will not offer an opinion on that particular coin.

As a different example of what I am talking about, the 2012 Charlton only lists the 1894 Thick 4 cent in grades up to MS-60. I own a PCGS MS-65 RB and have seen a PCGS MS-64 RB and an ICCS MS-63 Red. After such varieties are published, it takes a while to see what top end examples are really out there.

You'd think when listing a $14000 buy it now, a little care would be made in crafting the description:

"COIN GRADED BY ICCS**MS-63**!!.SOLO HIGHEST GRADED"

Also, how much does ICCS charge to take some shots of an ultra-rare before sealing it into a distorting double-flip? Is it the scanner, the outer flip, the mylar inner flip, or a scratch under the Queen's chin on this "MS-65"?

For a $14,000 listing you would expect a more professional listing
I would have had a gallery of photos; including a close-up shot of the detached jewel
and the alignment of the large beads with the "D.G. Regina" lettering

As I mentioned in another thread, the intent is not to sell this coin on ebay. It is just a cheap means to say "we got one, if you want it, come see us at the next coin show". How many coins do you think Proof Positive Coins actually sells on its ebay store?

Rob, our friend Doug snapped one up at the last winter Torex that we all were together, ICCS MS-65 Red. It was not the prettiest MS-65 Red I have seen, but still, it was nice to examine a mint state version of that variety.

Roger - That's my point. Although Charlton may only list them up to MS-60, higher grade ones are out there. I think that's true of other varieties also. Whether it is true of the five cent piece that started this thread, I don't know.

with Bosox, I've been searching through my own coin inventory and have come up with dozens of unattributed varieties the I.C.C.S never listed on their Certificates. I contacted them and asked what the fee would be for this, I was advised by Scott that it's "free" as long as Charlton Catalogue lists the variety!

So off 30 coins went to I.C.C.S. and all were confirmed with the specified varieties from Double Hp's, SWL's, etc.

Of course, if you spend over $100, he'll ship for free, so that's an incentive to buy right there...
