I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on which Kennedy half dollars are the hardest to find. Obviously the SILVER '64-70 are great, but I was just wondering about the other years, what is considered RARE?
Is it Mint #'s under 20 Million? 15 Million? Now thats relatively speaking compared to the other years that are 20+million minted.... If anyone has some insight I would appreciate it! Thank You in advance!

1982, 1982, 1990-1992, 2002 to present (NIFC) are the ones I have had the hardest time finding nice examples of in circulation.
Obviously 1970 and 1987 are tough also.

2002-present are only sold by the mint to collectors at a premium. You can find a few in circulation but rarely. The 1970-D is the key to the set and you most likely will not find that circulated as it was issued in mint sets.

It depends on the condition and where you are looking for them.

It's easy to find '80's issues that have been through a casino and '70's in AU.

The 1964 is distressingly common if you're looking in bags of silver.

Ebert2025, I don't know... I'm not saying they are rare or key dates. They are not...
I just, for some reason, cannot find nice examples in circulation. Mine stick out like a sore thumb in my set. Can't give any reason why.

The 1998S matte finish specimen with issued in a set with the 1998S uncirculated Robert F. Kennedy silver dollar. Costs about $150-$175.

Weren't the 1987 P and D also only released in mint sets? I don't think I've ever found one in circulation. I've also never found a 1970-D in circulation but my uncle did on his first half dollar hunt just a few weeks ago (when I told him about doing it) -- lucky.

If they were used in a casino they'd likely show heavy wear.

The 1970-D half dollar had a mintage of 2,150,000... far fewer than the other dates from around that time. Not including the S mint / proof, it's the rarest Kennedy up to 2008 when 1.7 million were minted.

The casino coins also have a specific type of wear. They'll be just covered with tiny scratches and if used long enough the whole design will appear a little "mushy". Normal wear is light abrasion that starts on the high points and works down but casinoes cause the coins to bang into metal inside the machine and each other in the counters and conveyor belts. The wear occurs over the entire surface and is composed of bits of missing and moved metal.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

They'd smell like cheap perfume and cigarette smoke.
