MS-65RD. I would have gone 66, however, there are a few contact marks, specifically the one on the lapel near the 's.' Beautiful strike and fantastic luster.

Nice coin!

I agree with the MS65 RD due to some chatter. Otherwise nice looking coin.

Nice fields giving it a chance for the upper grades but,
the chatter on the cheek "lowers" it to MS65

Is the chatter on the high points planchet chatter? I never know how to account for that in grading.

Actually, that is not chatter, it's due to the planchet imperfections not getting completely "ironed out" during the coining process. The cheek is the highest design point. It's a well known phenomenon with Lincolns. The first place to look is on the shoulder, that area shows the strength of the strike and often has a "scratchy" look when the strike is somewhat weak. It takes a lot of metal to fill that area of the die. The other device high points can also show the planchet marks as well as the reverse areas opposite the obverse high points. Most notably, this happens around the O in ONE and around the AM in AMERICA.

I gave this coin a grade of MS-66RD. On another forum, a few people whom I respect said it was a 67.

I go MS66RD....and the pics are very large. I forget what magnification "the graders" grade coins at...but if this is much larger than they grade them...it could go 67.

Does anyone know what magnification they grade at? Might be a good suggestion to have people post pics the size they are graded at...

That's a nice one. I like it at the worst at MS66RD.
