Thanks for sharing.

That perpetual legs things freaks me out -- same thing is on the Isle of Man flag -- I think. I didn't realize the symbol was so ancient.

Great coin

Having just watched the opening ceremony (twice), I still cant decide if it was sheer brilliance or just plain insane

Whatever it was it was more interesting than any other I've watched in recent years.

Me either - thought it was only on the Manx flag - Good luck to MC later today

The three-legged spiral shape is extremely ancient; some of the oldest carved stone in Europe bears such symbols. But it appears to be the ancient Greeks who were first to make the spiral's legs actually human leg-shaped. The Wikipedia article has a picture of an Aspendos stater not entirely unlike yours.

Thanks Sap, I was going to look it up today. I was too busy watching the Olympics last night! LOL But when I woke this morning -- bike race on the Isle of Man.

So I looked up the Isle of Man and the symbol on their flag and there is no real explanation for the meaning of the symbol although it is associated with their motto: whichever way you throw it, it will stand/ or as it relates to coinage: however it is tested, it will pass.

Really happy you guys love my coin. Its def. important to me. I wrestled in high school. Great sources, they made for a great read. They have found the perpetual legs on so of the earliest incluse punchs. Very mysterious, why would someone come up with that. What ever the reason it went viral in antiquity.

Better centered coins show the reverse figure is a slinger not a javelin thrower.

I thought the opening ceremony was OK... but Mr Bean playing the piano was genius....

Given that there is an olympics somewhere in the world every 4 years I am sure you could build a good collection of lympic based coins...not that I will because I dont have much enthusiasm for the games personally.

Those old coins are great and I too didnt realise that design was so old...the more I visit these forumss the more I start to like ancients...

It amazes me sometimes, the things that I have learned about coins that are now used today. Ancients are a lot of fun to collect. I used to collect modern coins until I saw how interesting ancient coins are.

Some people collect both modern and ancient.

Very nice OP coin. I looked around and saw they are a bit expensive for my budget. I can only imagine the series being plagued by fakes as well. Hopefully, they ain't.

There are many studio fakes. This is a 100% orginal. The fakes do not have this monogram. Also thanks, I found that it the reverse image is etter described as a slinger.
