I was wondering if it is worth while investing in a Calliper Vernier Gauge Micrometer for measuring the width and thickness of coins, I rarely need to measure coins and I just use a sewing tape measure, which does the job in ‘mm'.
Do you need to be more accurate in measurement, and what do other people use.

Unless youre dealing with high end coins I dont really see the need. It would also be useful for ancients.

I went to a local discount hardware store, and picked up a cheap digital caliper for around $10

You can buy plastic ones too. Less chance of scratching your coins.

for sale at Dollars & Cents for $2.99; were $2.00 a couple of years ago when I bought mine.
Mostly, I use mine for checking which size 2x2 to use.
Even a cheapie is a lot more useful than a conventional ruler.
