I found a way of turning aluminum into silver!
Actually I just started saving all of my aluminum cans, and cashing them in for cash to buy SAEs. But I thought it was funny. I was driving around at work trying to think of ways to fund my silver purchases, and it hit me. I have been putting cans in the recycle bins for a year now, why not cash them in for cash. Then I started thinking more, and at the PD where I work we have recycle bins loaded with cans from everyone that I work with drinking canned soda. So I took thise cans also. I figured that every month or two I should be able to get enough aluminum to buy an extra SAE.

Just be sure you have permission to take the cans. Someone may be using them to get extra money for meetings or parties at your PD. I used to take the tabs of the cans here, but I got fed up with the bags of cans having trash, food, or worse.

Defiantly ask to see who the cans rightly belong to. But if one collects aluminum to get a few extra ASE for there stack, it makes scents to me. I would do it but storage of all those cans in my cramp garage just won't work. Keep us informed of your progress.

I'm doing the same thing, only I'm turning #1 plastic, soup cans, and anything else that my chosen recycling center will pay cash for into silver as well.
Just since December, between that and a few odd jobs I've bought about a troy pound worth!

That will reduce the space needed by about 80% or more. A typical black plastic garbage sack should hold LOTS of them. As to cashing in cans, how man aluminum cans = 1 ASE?

We collect cans at my shops and then give the money to local churches as charity. Last year I believe we collected close to $500 worth of cans.

I checked before taking the cans from the recycle bins. I try not to committ theft from the police department where I work. Lol In fact some of the guys I work with even said that they would throw there cans in a garbage bag and bring them in for me.

Probably not legal but it's an interesting idea for anyone who collects silver coins and needs a little jog to remind them to join the local blood drive.

I spent way too much time in Europe, mainly Italy and the former Yugoslav Republics, so I might be a carrier for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, commonly known as mad cow disease.

Yes, it is also known as BSE. This is exactly what prevented me from trying the "blood sausage" when my wife and I were in the UK in the summer of 2001. In fact, we pretty much stuck with the fish and chicken dishes, which were quite good.
There is a human equivalent for BSE known as CJD or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Wish that the government in Canada didn't successfully trick everyone into recycling their soda cans for free. If they had places here that cans could be cashed in then I would.

Jason, if they have scrap metal dealers in Canada, they might pay around 20ยข/lb for them, plus or minus.

Their are many ways to scrap, I was picking up aluminum storm doors and windows for awhile, garbage day.. When the contractors were doing the wiring for street lights, yep, right behind them picking up the copper they throw on the ground. Old computer parts are worth considerable more than the newer stuff, trick is getting dibs on all this stuff people are throwing out, we've got quite a few more junkers here in the city than I've ever seen before, but with metals up significantly from where they were not to many years ago, I can see why. Still, for all the scrapping I did, the old catalytic convertor I found alongside the road was like hitting the jackpot.
