This has been in my collection as long as I can remember, many years. I'm not really a big coin collector so I haven't paid it much mind until the last couple of days when I've seen a similiar coin selling on ebay for hundreds of dollars. The tough part for me has been looking whether its real or not, or if its actual silver or not. You can see the bit of discoloring on it in the middle on both sides. Even though it failed the magnet test it passed the ring and tissue test and I don't know of any more tests that I could do without damaging the coin.

If it is real, then if I can get a grade on it and maybe a possible value that would be great also. The coin on ebay looks to be in better shape just because of no discoloration. I also was unable to get a good picture of the edges since I only had my phone camera so I put two in there with and without flash and hopefully you guys can tell the difference.

Because I'm not a huge collector I don't have anything that I can weigh the coin with. I compared it to a silver 1925 Peace dollar and its a bit lighter than that though its also thinner. Diameter is approximately 40mm

If it does turn out to be fake I'll be a bit disappointed but I can just keep it in my collection since it looks cool. Thanks for the help

It failed the magnet test!

So its not silver! And the only thing is a modern day forgery.

Yeah I was afraid of that but I don't know if the magnet test is completely foolproof though? I've been trying other things and its checked out so far. Though would that just be a plating?

When you say it failed the magnet test, do you mean that the coin stuck to the magnet? If it did, then it contains iron and would most likely be a forgery.

Details look too crude and it doesn't look like silver to me.

A genuine Chinese silver coin will cost a lot as you might have seen.

Nobody plates a silver coin with something magnetic. If it sticks to a magnet, it's definitely a steel fake. 100% guarantee.
