So recently I came into a bunch of old Eisenhower dollars from the 1970's and was actually going to cash them in as I don't think there are any that are of particular interest. (They are in well circulated but nice condition.). So I was thinking that maybe I should hold on to them thinking that they might get some value in the near future or am I just wasting my space and my time?

Look for 1972 ( no mint mark) Type II. That would be worth keeping or selling. Also look for anything with an S mint mark. Those would be keepers. The rest may not be worth the effort.

Thank you lars will look right now! Can you believe the person who had these had them from a trip to Vegas way way back in 1977 and she never cashed them in!

Look on ebay to see what people will pay for a group of these. I know they go for more than face value. The local shop here has a price tag of 2.00 each on them and they sell

I hold on to mine when I find them in teller's drawers and trays, if for no other reason than they are a type of US coin that is not minted any more, and it's replacement isn't even close to being similar.
But maybe I am just wasting my space too.
I was at the California State Fair this weekend and the girlfriend and I were eying the giant safes. Something has to fill our future one. ;-)

I was just at the Coin Show over the weekend. A DEALER sold me a large lot of IKEs for just 1.07 each- he wanted to get rid of them. I found one 71D Friendly Eagle Variety so it was worth paying a little over face. I asked around and dealers said they are not selling even at $1.25 each and none wanted to buy them- they say to spend them. There apparently isn't a big enough collector base for them.

Basically those do sell for about $1.25 each in great condition. Worn ones usually don't sell at all for more than face. There is a dealer on the internet that specializes in those and has a registered set with PCGS.

More help please? As someone suggested I sorted the Ike dollars I have. I found 20 from 1972. 17 of them have the D mint mark. Three of them have no mint mark. Are these three the possible type I, II and III that people talk about? If so is there any easy way to tell the type? I did some research online and from what I can tell its all about the type of relief the earth is in. Correct? Total novice at this so please forgive my ignorance.
