Hi. I live in Canada so the rolls I buy are Canadian, but I regularly find American Pennies mixed in with the Canadian ones. I keep all wheat cents I find, but I was wondering, assuming decent grade, which Memorial cents are worth keeping. I do not really know a lot about the memorial cents yet as I have mostly focused on Canadian cents. Which years or mint marks are rare or have errors/varieties that are uncommon. I do not hoard copper (yet) so I don't want to be keeping all 1982 and before (I believe 1982 is when they stopped using copper). Thank you in advance!

An easy (naked eye) variety to spot are the small/large date varieties of the 1960 cent, both mints.

there was also a variety that was missing the designer initials on the reverse, don't recall the years though. Also one year has WAM ( Wide AM) or CAM ( Close AM) [follow links for details]. 1982 was the transition year for copper and zinc cents, about half were copper, about half were zinc. Some can tell by their sound when dropped, but the only method I found was to weigh them. Copper cent is 3.1 grams, Zinc cent is 2.5

If your planning on keeping those Lincoln Cents, you may want to look into purchasing a copy of what is called the Red Book, by Whitman Publishing. For your purposes I suggest trying ebay or a used book store for an older, cheaper version. Same info but just not completely up to date.
I too am in a similar situation. I don't collect Canadian Coins as a collection but I do keep all the ones I get in change.
