So today my first dansco album came in the mail. I had some Presidential dollars laying around and decided to do an album for them mostly because I appreciate the history of the past presidents. For as worthless as these dollars are from a money making collecting standpoint, I have to say the album is truly amazing if you enjoy history. Every coin is accompanied by a page with a picture of that president and a paragraph about them including their life span. Theres a lot of interesting facts in there and really well put together. For example Monroe captured all but 1 electoral vote in the 1820 election and is the only president to have a foreign capital named after him (Monrovia, Liberia). I havent read it all yet but definitely will. I didnt buy it completed like the APMEX listing, but they have some great pics of the album for those that may be interested. http://www.apmex.com/Product/50316/...Fo4Aods1MApwWhich also leads me to the question, if these coins continue all the way through what will they do when they catch up to the sitting president? I think its on pace for 2017 to be when this happens. Now we get 4 a year but once it catches up will we just get 1 every 4 years? Will we also have the 2 coin set for presidents that win both terms or just 1 coin at the end of the 8 years? Edited by basebal21 08/01/2012 12:40 am

for a president to be on a coin, he has to be deceased for a number of years that I don't recall.
I don't know about your second question.
They did 2 separate coins for Grover Cleveland's 2 terms since they were not back to back, but other presidents that served 2 terms consecutively only had one coin, like Washington.

Figured they would make an exception for this series. Other wise this series comes to a stop in 2016 for who knows how many years and probably will never get restarted after such a break.
Looks like the separate terms is the only way to get more than one coin considering rosevelt only has 1 planned ect. Just wasnt sure if that was set in stone or if they may reconsider that to keep coins coming out for the series

A Problem with this Album is there could possibly be no end to it since there will or might be a lot more presidents. There are only two ways out of this. One is to make sure no more ex presidents die. Or change our present governement to have a dictator for the rest of time.

I haven't gotten this Dansco Album but it is on my list to get. The ATB Album also has a nice page for every year giving information about the location featured on each coin that I think really adds to the overall Album.

The legislation that authorized the series specifically states that the president must be deceased for at least two years prior to his coin. It also states that once all eligible presidents are depicted, the series ends. What is ambiguous is whether or not Reagan will get a coin if Carter is still alive. Technically, Ford is the last eligible president. If Carter is still living in 2014, I would expect that congress would pass something more explicit to allow for a Reagan coin. Here are some previous discussions to enjoy... http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=34130http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=51029

Are you also collecting the First Spouse medals? Interesting how they used the politically correct term instead of First Lady. Suppose that's in case we ever have a female or gay president.

LOL I hope our presidents dont start dropping like flys keeping the series going for ever. Quote: What is ambiguous is whether or not Reagan will get a coin if Carter is still alive. I do hope they include the Regan coin at least. The first Bush may be included as well, he hasnt been looking to good lately. With it written like that though hes the last one I see being able to make it onto one short of some tragedies. I agree, it is a great touch instead of just having the pages. I think I probably will pick that one and the State Quarter one up as well

I have this album as well. I agree, its flipping awesome. And I am one who actually kind of likes the coins.
I would think they would just skip the peanut farmer if he still draws breath. And if he croaks before the series ends, then coin him up out of order. That would make the most sense IMO.

I like the idea of these coins a lot, but think it could have been a little better done, but like you couldnt be happier with the album.
Id be all for just doing all the presidents for this regardless of alive or not, but since that wont happen hopefully they just do what you said.
