Two years ago, this month, I got bit by the bug, and began collecting coins - now I'm an addict - can't imagine a day going by without looking at coins - be it on the internet, pocket change, or my own meager collection.
This hobby of our's is not only addictive, it's absolutely amazing too. Don't you agree?

Coin collecting is very addictive. I have been slowly trying to add coins for a type set..... and then I decide to save money for a couple key dates... then today I was looking at coins and thinking how nice red Indian cents looked, and thinking about buying some of those. Also I was looking at some Walkers and thinking a short set of MS-63+ Walkers would be nice. Too many coins, not enough money!!!

PS. And I only collect US coins!!

I agree Ralph,
I'm going on a year of active collecting myself.
Funny,it all started with one coin, passed down from my Gret great Grandmother, and like you there is not a day gone by,without a coin.

It's absolutely amazing to look at all the coins I've acquired in just one year from the US and so many different countries. And it is so nice that I've made so many friends
on this forum.

A hobby well worth it's while, and though addictive yes,but healthy too. It's been a relaxing hobby, and one that's helped lower my blood pressure. You just get so focused in them.

Congratulations on your Happy hunting, and I hope your collection keeps growing.
:) sn31.

I completely understand, I went to my first show today, when I entered I was a wheatie and morgan collector, but now I am soooo glad the one dealer who I saw had a credit card machine had left his reciept paper at home, or I would have been in big trouble, I barely looked at morgans and only bought a few wheats. I was fascinated by the seated liberty and draped bust coins, in the pictures here and in books, I always thought they were not that nice looking, but in person I think they are wonderful. I humbly ask all collecters of them to forgive this former heathen, and I bow to you. and while I was able to escape without purchasing one of them, for the time being, I somehow bought coins from Germany, Belgium, France and India I had previously ignored those parts of the forumfor the most part, but who knows now. I guess you never know where you are going to go in this "hobby", but I am glad I am hooked

I'm with ya Ralph, and everyone else for that matter. I had to sell off my grandfathers collection to split the money with three other grandchildren. What I was able to keep has me hooked for sure. It is amazing for me as well to see how much I have collected, and how much knowledge I have gained in the last 6 months. The folks here are undoubtedly the friendliest people around, and I honestly feel I have made some pretty good Internet friendships that will last a long time.

Good for you Ralph!!

I have been collecting since the 1950's. There have been periods of time when I stopped. For instance, when the children forst came alomg, when I first started teaching, and short periods where I suffered a little "burnout."

Now, in retirement, I am fully engaged in coin collecting, and only wish I had more money to really add a bunch of coins to my sets.

I am enthusiastic about everything I collect, from keeping the normal circulation sets up-to-date, to starting the new Presidential dollar series, to adding beautiful coins to my collections, such as ASE's, Maple Leafs, Australian Lunar coins, and Britannias. In addition I have a great start on Australian 20 cent and 50 cent pieces, thanks to my friends in Australia.

Ralph, again, congratulations!!

It's a great hobby!!

Rest in Peace

I could not agree more with every ones sentiments. I have been involved in this hobby for close to 40 years. There have been times when I stepped away but always returned. It is a great "addiction"! Mike

Good for you Ralph, Many people do not have a hobby that they enjoy and I feel sorry for them. The great part of this hobby is it does connect with many other subjects, a love of History and Coin collecting are my perfect matches. I too have been collecting since I was a kid, some 35 odd years ago. I have been collecting on and off ever since. I do regret that I lose interest sometimes, but I ALWAYS COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards Tony
