Early last week on Heritages site I bid on a PCGS Morgan even though I knew there would be an 18% buyers fee and $6 or $7 shipping charge. Sometimes you want something bad enough. Needless to say I didn't win. OK, so Sunday night I checked ebay and found the same exact PCGS Morgan for sale. (I always write down the registration numbers when I bid, make sure I get the right coin in shipping.) The coin was for sale by Heritage on ebay (hain.com). Did not know they had a site on ebay. I bid and won the coin for $25 less than my highest bid on the regular Heritage site. Plus there was no buyers premium and free shipping. Saved about $24 there also. What is strange is that the coin sold on Heritage the week before for about $30 more, so why was it for sale on ebay six days later for less? There is no mistaking the registration numbers and I know the coin had the same small scratch on it. Something is not right here. Maybe you guys can help. Thanks again in advance edgman

My guess would be a non payment or the buyer changed their mind. I know a lot of sites have things for sale on their sites and ebay as well and it could have been an oversight by heritage not to end the other auction when the first one was bid one

Good one baseball21. Acloco has a point also. Sometimes I feel like someone is pushing these bids up especially on Teletrade on Tuesdays no reserve, no buyers fee night. Why in the case of default payment or something else wouldn't the customer relist this on the regular Heritage site. Maybe they are embarrased about relist because of non-payment, etc. Well I;m ahead of the game anyway but it is strange. Now I have a beautiful PCGS 1879CC VF20 Morgan for slightly under $200. As soon as I get my microscope I will post an image.
Thanks again

I have no doubt people bid on their own items to drive up the price and get caught sometimes pushing it one bid to far

basebal21 you said it exactly right. A lot of times I'm positive I won a bid but an hour after bidding closes I go up to check and find out I didnt win. Maybe its just me. I usually on bid on the Tuesday Teletrade unless there is something I really want.

If the details are accurate I would think what probably happened was Heritage decided they liked the coin and put in a max bid for the lot. (They do reserve the right to bid on items and typically do so with a max bid before it goes live on the floor.) During the sale he was bidding against Heritages max book bid. Heritage won and then put the coin on ebay without a reserve and it sold for less than they paid for it. Some times you win, sometimes you lose. In this case they lost.
