Hi,

I can find no reference to it anywhere, but please can someone tell me if the following is legal tender?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-DORIS-...300759526106

I suspect it isn't, despite what the seller has put, but know that countries do occasionally produce special commerative notes that are legal.

Seeing as I am from the UK, I would like to check...

thanks in advance
Rest in Peace

It probably is and isn't. The ones like this that I have seen up close are regular Washington portrait dollar bills with a peel off portrait of Marylin / Santa/ Bill Clinton / whomever pasted over George's picture.

Somebody probably took a legal tender 1 dollar bill and then printed over it or added a sticker. You see that a lot with the State Quarters or Kennedy halves. It wasn't produced officially the way it is.

Could you use it as money? Probably, as most people don't pay that close attention. Is it worth what he is asking? No.

i would say yes it is as it is still a dollar bill with a sticker on it. I once heard that somebody found one of these bills in a strap that they got from the bank.

here is one on the ebay US site that describes what has been said here about it being a sticker over George Washington's face http://www.ebay.com/itm/Doris-Day-D...350261093759 and I doubt they are rare as there is no telling how many were actually done this way. This one in this auction actually has a different picture of Dorris Day on it http://www.ebay.com/itm/Doris-Day-D...em20be095d05, These things are probably still being made today with just about any celebrity you could think of pasted over GW's face. That seller in the last link even has one where you can make a custom one with any picture you want on it

It is a genuine Federal Reserve note with a sticker attached. It should peel off.

Seller said it was printed 'some time ago'. It is a regular Series 2003 FRN

Just an average note with graffiti as far as collector value goes.

Thank you very much.

I guessed it might be, but I have also seen MANY home printed clearly-not-legal tender that I wasnt sure.

If it is just a sticker then the 'only few printed' etc is utter cobblers.

I shall avoid it.
