Mintage doesn't always equate to higher prices. Price is determined by demand and availability. The 1914-D Lincoln Cent has twice the mintage of the 1931-S but sells for half the price in lower grades.

The early Buffaloes were affected by significant attrition rates, many of the dates wore off completely so those coins are essentially lost even though they may still physically exist in dateless form. The 1926S is less expensive than the 1913S TII in lower grades but the 1926S is actually the most expensive non-overdate in the entire series in EF and above grades.

Indian Gold, I think you mean that the 14D is double the price of the 31-S even in low grades.

The 26S coins did not wear away- there are many partial dates but few are dateless, unlike the 13S Type II and other teen mint marked coins, especially 14 and 15.

Mycrob pretty much hit it on the head.
The Older dates were much more circulated, wore away easy, so finding them even in low grades is MUCH more difficult than finding a 26s or 31s in higher grades, directly affecting the demand and value of those.
