Hi guys

Sorry to ask this question AGAIN, it probably has been asked hundreds of times, but is this 1970S penny a small date or is it a large date...?

Thanks guys.

A quick PUP that will never steer you wrong on this variety, IF the both ends of the 9 are pointed, it is a small date, IF the ends of the 9 are blunt or not pointed, large date.

I believe this question has been asked for as long as I have been lucky to of found this site( for years ), I asked a noted Cent specialist about my observation, after spending time researching this variety, which back then this PUP was NOT listed or discussed. Look up the history on this site about this PUP, I believe you will see the facts. :)

I was told that there was already to many PUP'S for this coin and my suggestion about using this one was not needed, what do you think......... PS, There are plenty of very readily educated pleasant people here that enjoy helping share their knowledge with others!

I think you should also include a picture of the font "IN GOD WE TRUST" that is usually how I determine if a coin has a small date or a large date, because there is more spacing between the letters on the small date then the larger date, hope I could help

Im outtttttt

Nope... I go through thousands of em... small date is really hard. Easiest way, draw a straight line from bottom of 1 to bottom of 0... shouldn't touch the 7

Large Date! Draw an extrended line accross top of "7", if the "0" goes above that line it's a large date. Photo below is small date.

Don't forget the curl of the 9. If it points to the bottom of the 7-LD. If it points to the middle of the 0 - SD.

Great reminder about the "9" which is very different in each variety and another great indicator.
