So a bank near me has 160 IKES

I looked on ebay, some people sell ikes hordes in increments of 10 for $15! and sometimes more!

So I really want to buy these but I don't have enough money to let $160 sit in my house :(
I still have a bank near me with 4 $12 dollar tubes of unc mint sealed pres dollar coins that I need to buy for $48

I hate being poor!

the Pres Dollars will always be worth a dollar in my opinion and since you say you don't have the money right now I would buy the Ikes (if you say you can sell 10 for $15.00). That way you will get $240.00 on your $160.00 investment where you will only get $48.00 on your $48.00 investment with the Presidential dollars. When you don't have money you have to find small ways like this to make money to fund your collecting hobby

Yeah, I really want the ikes. I might even keep them for a while. I think collectibles will go up with the economy. It's a buyers market right now.
Maybe next week I can get some of them...

I normally cannot get any Ike dollars from the banks, BUT when I can I get all that I can get with the money in my pocket. If I have to I'll come back and get them ASAP.

I was at the bank this afternoon and was able to get just 2, and they are mine now for safekeeping.

GO GET THE IKES!!

You can never go wrong when you can get for face coins that are no longer minted from the banks such as Ikes and Susan B's. IMO

[edit] If I knew where that bank was you'd be behind me and out of luck.

well if you sel the IKES on ebay for $240 you'll lose 9% on the sale and at least 2.7% on the paypal transaction as far as I know. So here's your ebay breakdown:

$240 * .09= $21.60
$240 * .027= $ 6.48
--------------------
total fees= $28.08
total profit=$51.92

I'd try and off them in one shot on craigslist or to a coin shop. It can be a real PITA losing a huge percentage while attempting to get the most out of your stuff...

Buy the Ikes, keep the ones you want and use the rest to buy your groceries and things. If you can't get them all at once, get as many as you can and use them this way.

Get the Ike's!

They sell for upwards of $10 each at the local live auctions here in eastern N.C., and that is just the clads. The silver ones go for $30+.

Broseph, here is the strategy I would use:

First, go buy as many of the Ikes as possible. Search for whatever it is you personally are interested in (varieties, specific years, etc.), and retain whatever you find that matches your search criteria.

Next, sell the rest via ebay or local coin shows. For ebay, make sure you take good photographs and have a clear, well-written description that will attract knowledgeable buyers willing to pay a good price (and if you're not entirely sure how, my mom used to run a business on ebay and I was responsible for proofing her lots and writing "junkshop item" descriptions--I'd be happy to help you in exchange for an Ike ) You want to do this "quickly but not in haste," which means you may not get TOP dollar ($10 as Tim suggests), but should get a GOOD dollar (say, $3-5). For anything special--a super-rare variety you don't actually collect, silver, etc.--sit on it for now.

I bet you know what I'm gonna have you do with the profits, right? Rinse and repeat. If this second buy nets you all of the remaining Ikes, you can now search and sell at your leisure.

And finally . . . take that second wave of profit, call the bank with the Prezes, and if they still have them, there's your Prez money.

Good luck!

Good advice all around! When I get paid next, I will start buying them as I am able! I paid a lot of bills with todays paycheck, but next week should be better.
Here's hoping!
