Does anyone spend any of their 2012 dollar coins (either intentionally or by accident)? Or have you gotten any from the bank or in change? I've set free about a dozen 2012 Native American dollars, yes, they cost me more than a dollar, but its fun and someone will get a nice surprise if they notice.

I haven't spent any but I sure would like to find some. Any chance you let them loose in New Hampshire.

I never see any collar coins in change, nor do I know anone that spends them. If I asked about the 2012 ones, no one I know would know what they are, where they are or anything about them. I still get into arguments with people when I say they still make and use 2 dollar bills.

I've spent the better part of two bags worth of them.

That's great Captain, I like hearing that I'm not the only one. Looks like you are spending them faster than me.
just_carl: you know at least two people who spend them, Captain Fwiffo and I both do. Only once have I spent some where a cashier didn't recognize them as money and their manager set the straight in about 10 seconds.

Does the mint release any of these for normal circulation? My opinion is that if they don't, they should release them as commemorative coins, not production coins.

I believe theyve frozen sending them to banks for circulation since so many of them were piling up in the stock houses. 2011 I think was the last year they tried to put them out and now theyre just available from the mint or aftermarket sellers

Isn't ordering straight from the mint and paying a premium the only way you can get them now? I wish they still had their direct ship. My bank stopped ordering them and now all I can get my hands on are what's in their tray. Usually not very much. And they're never the new ones. Usually SBA's Sacs and 2007-10 presidentials. Occasional I'll get an American Indian.

The direct ship was killed because people were using it to make money. Youd buy at face value and they would ship them free (which cost them money too) but by buying with a credit card you would get the rewards for it and most of them just ended up back at banks which then complained to the fed. Hence one of the reasons why theirs a huge stockpile of them
