Is this natural toning or has something caused it? I have quiet a few Mercury dimes, but this one looks very different from the others.

Is there a limit on how many pictures with questions I can ask in a day?

I wanted to add that is was in a old coin book. I took it out and put it in a plastic coin case. Will coins in older books do this?

The toning is natural in my opinion and yes the older coin folders and even some of the newer ones can cause a coin to tones like this ,, especially if the environment is not controlled, Humidity ,hot and cold, and chemical reactions with the sulfur and other chemicals in the production of card board and paper make toning such as this ,,sometimes colorful and pretty sometimes black and not so pretty .

I agree with Metalman. I have seen a whole lot of Mercury dimes look exactly like this that had been stored in folders.

I've got a few of these myself that were in old blue Whitman albums... I would call them black and not so pretty.
