Poll Question
Since silver has popped up a bit, I have gotten the itch for a new gun and the wife doesn't car as long as the money doesn't come out of the checking account.

So if I want to scratch the itch, it is going to have to come out of the silver stockpile. I'm thinking something in the neighborhood of 20 ozs should raise the money needed. I'll be trading off a gun also.

What would you all do if you were me? BTW, the gun is a SA 1911 if that makes any difference.

Poll Choices
 Junk Morgan/Peace @ $22 face
 Junk Franklins @ $20 face
  ASE @ spot
 Generic bullion $2 below spot
Hold tight and shoot what I've already got.

I voted for generic bullion because I think its the least valuable out of the bullion coins you have

I would sell the Franklins, but only because I think bullion coins are neat.

I voted for ASE at spot because you can always buy them back for close to spot later. And just what about the price of silver rising makes you want to buy more guns? For me I just always want to have more guns so maybe I don't notice it as much.

The itch for a new gun comes and goes. I passed the level of need for guns a few years ago and now it is just want. The price of silver going up just makes my silver worth more to sell back to cash to be able to buy a new gun. I wouldn't be cashing out of silver. 20 ozs would represent about 10% of my stack. And finally, I see this little run up as a temporary blip and we will be back at $28 in the next couple weeks. I got about $4000 in over the summer and am thinking about taking a little profit to fund a new gun.

Unless your a gun collector and are in the market for something special, I'd stick with the coins. As a general rule, coins go up in value, most guns go down. True some guns gain in value, but no where near as much as coins. Then too, selling a coin is simple compared to selling a gun.

Your a man, do you have a job? If so tell the wife your getting a new gun next payday and that is all there is to it. I would be willing to bet that she gets what she wants when she wants it doesn't she? This strategy works well for me, and has for 27 years.

Very true, although you can shoot the guns. I guess you could shoot the coins too and start selling "rare" coins on ebay

I'll really be kicking myself I I sell some silver and it goes up over $40. I want to upgrade my 1911 but its not really pressing. It is something that can wait.

Carl, I don't consider my self a gun collector. More like a gun accumulator. It is a similiar strategy with my bullion pile.

Tim, I've been able to buy 27 guns in the past two years and I've piled up almost 200 ozs of silver since I got he bug in December. I can abide by my wife's wishes if that is what she wants. My wife never asks for anything and that is probably why I get so much.

I had a springfield and a colt 3 inch. Stick with a 4 inch or more. The SA was real nice and loved the 3 inch colt, but the 3 inch 1911 are a POS. Constantly jammed and broke, jut to much stress on the design for the size.
