for donation to my ebay selling account, none will be sold, they will be posted on ebay at ridiculous prices and any bids cancelled. my idea is if someone see's them and has a read they will learn how its done.
if you decide to donate to this cause please give a brief description of how it was made.
most of you have seen this one before, but this is the idea.

Ok had a look around the bay and got a few ideas,

There was a blank one -- might take a while to wear away both sides.

Bitten edge/ clip planchet -- should be able to grind a 5c or something.

Split planchet -- wonder if this is easy to do or not?

No sd coins -- can you rub one off?

Gluing 2 coins together then when you pull them apart should have a glue imprint

Squish 2 coins in a vice.

Anyone want to try these

You just KNOW I'm going to have a crack at these
I will try and make some and send the pic's then put them where I put all my ebay losers and shed jobs.
Down the well in the back paddock
I had some I made before and they are at the bottom of the well so I will just have to start over

I would definitely avoid fabricating known varieties such as clipped planchets and no SD 2c. A lot of these errors/varieties are genuine and there's no point alerting people to easy ways to fake them when most are genuine at the moment. I would stick to vise jobs or smooth coins, that sort of thing.

erkle, Do you want the actual coins, or just pictures?

I have a couple that would probably fit the 'manufactured' description, but I wasn't the maker.

I'm a bit wary about giving ebay browsers a description of how 'shed jobs' are made, it might start off an epidemic of home made garbage being put up for sale. We can't even be too sure that a lot of them aren't already lurking here on CCF.

What do others think?

I definitely go along with erkles' idea, just not sure about giving people the 'recipe'.

I think someone did this a few years ago with slightly off centre $2 that a few germs were listing as 5c/$2 'mules' and I remember thinking it was a good idea to let potential buyers know what's a real mule and what's just rubbish.

Nancy is right. It needs to be done very carefully. It needs to be done in a way that says this is not a legitimate error or variety without giving away the method. That is why I suggested staying well clear of errors such as clipped planchets and no SD 2c. Most of those varieties are genuine on ebay so why put the idea and method into the minds of fabricators.

pics are all thats really needed as nothing is going to be sold anyway.
and yep with a little bit of humour and imagination an explanation could be given that doesn't exactly expose the methods but exposes that it is man made not no mint damage

If you need someone to give a humorous description of a rare error, there is a person in Canada that has been trying to sell a genuine Canadian flipover double strike cent for !.35 million (there are numerous threads posted here), and while his ebay listing on this is something out of this world, I think he has convinced himself through his unique description that he can be a millionaire when he sells his coin...

Methinks a box will be opened we may never close. Just my humble opinion.
