Need-Help-With-An-English?-Coin-|-Cumberland-Jack

Hi Everyone I am a new member with my first question. I have a coin that appears to be a gold sovereign but I can't find any info on it. The front has a picture of a young Queen Victoria but it is dated 1830 before she took the throne. Around her head is H.M.G.M Queen Victoria. On the back is a figure riding a hose over the top of a three head dragon. Across the top reads To Hanover and below is the date 1830. I hope my pictures are OK. My digital photo skills are not much better then my coin ID skills. Many thanks in advance.

Woah! Cool thing. Its a spoof of the Sovereign.

Any idea what you're going to do with it? I would love a piece like this - I could pretend I own a sovereign!

These pieces are known as "Cumberland Jacks", so named because they feature Ernst August, the Duke of Cumberland, the Queen's uncle who inherited the throne of Hanover which Queen Victoria was not allowed to inherit because she was female. They were made in Britain for use as card game counters, back when card game gambling using actual money was illegal. "1830" is definitely not the actual date of issue, since Victoria did not become queen until 1837. They shouldn't be too hard to obtain, especially in their native Britain; I'd have thought pretty much any dealer should have some in stock, or look on ebay.

They come in several varieties, obviously made by numerous different manufacturers over several decades. The one in this thread is particularly nicely done; most (such as the one in the thread Wade linked to) have a more cartoonish look to them.
