Quote: You need to keep going to that market. I do not care how many specials or BOGOs the other offer! Indeed I do! And by the way, I saw my friend again on Monday but that was a planned meeting.

Quote: Found a 1958 dime this morning after finding $13.20 in Canadian coins yesterday. This gem was included in the Canadian find, I think it might be Irish. Just in time for Saint Patrick's Day.

Anyone ever wonder what's on the floor beneath the machines?

Anyone ever wonder what's on the floor beneath the machines? Yes... and one time I got to see under a machine and there was a silver dime there with a few other assorted coins, but the person servicing the machine said he wasn't allowed to touch them or let anyone else around touch them when he was there. Funny thing is I went back to that store and machine the next day and got a silver dime out of it. I also used a ruler to feel around for stuff under the machine, but couldn't pull anything. That same machine also produced a silver quarter the first CRH day of the new year!

This reminds me a much earlier time, checking the return slot on pay phones :)
BTW, 2 coinstars at 2 stores, both strikeouts.

One 1981 dime, at least not a total waste!

I now check religiously and have only ever found a small handful altogether. That is, until today! Someone must have been in a hurry. My biggest haul by far: Possibly the best-looking 1964-D Jefferson I've found in the wild (looks like it has some album toning...): A pretty nice 26 year old dark brown cent with reverse toning Also, a 1955-D Wheatie, a beat up 1968 Canadian cent and a very clean 2009 D.C. quarter. I didn't add it all up, but I'm guessing a few bucks worth! I thought this was my time but, no silver.

That is an amazing, nearly unbelievable haul. No reason most of those coins didn't get processed. It must have been one heck of a dump.

I found 32 cents, all in pennies except for one dime in my grocery store today. Some were shiny and new like they shouldn't have been rejected but others were very dirty to the point of being unrecognizable.

I don't know why a lot of these coins get rejected but, I'm not complaining! That last find had only one beat up coin - the '68 Canadian cent. I can see that being rejected but, nothing else had major problems/exceptions. No big gunk blobs, no major damage, no silver, etc. I recently used a Coinstar to dump change and had quite a bit of nickels. It first rejected a good pile of clean nickels but, after feeding them back in over and over I eventually got them all accounted for. I guess they're just quirky machines that we can take advantage of...
