Quote: Found a Coinstar mini jackpot today at the store. Highlights would be the 2 silver rosies 63D & 64P, but the crown jewel is the 1871 Great Britain 3 Pence. Nice haul, Nickelitus.

Found Two Cents on the ground outside the Docs office then three Canadian Quarters, one Canadian Nickel, one U.S. dime and two U.S. cents in the Coinstar reject bin. Not sure why the dime was rejected, not silver.

Found Two Cents stuck together and one 1999 Canadian dime in the Coinstar reject tray at my local grocery store early this morning... I threw the cents in the trash and kept the dime...

Nice finds everyone! I happened to walk by a Coinstar machine in a local grocery store last night while a Loomis worker was maintaining it. I stopped and asked him several questions: 1) Is there an internal coin reject chute/slot? Answer: No, only the external chute/slot. I visually confirmed this because the machine was open. I could see several US coins lying on a "ledge" beneath the coin counting mechanism. The coins appeared to have "overflowed" the counting mechanism at some time in the past. Even with the machine open it would have been difficult to retrieve the coins, so I didn't ask him if he would allow me to retrieve the coins.) 2) Will the machine reject silver coins? Answer: No, all coins except foreign and damaged coins will be counted by the machine. Follow-up question 2a) So, if my son steals my old, silver US coins and dumps them in this machine, then the machine will accept them? Answer: Yes. This answer was suspicious given many folks here report finding silver coins in the reject slot of Coinstar machines. The Loomis worker was in his 20's, so it's possible he had limited experience and was simply telling me what he thought the machine would accept/reject. In the past I've found only Cu-Ni clad US coins and Canadian coins in the reject slot of this particular machine...I've not found a silver coin. Happy reject slot hunting everyone!

Thanks for the story/info Berto! That is definitely puzzling regarding silver...either way, sounds like a good conversation to have!

Hi all, Went to the bank last week to cash in some pennies in the coin machine. About half way through it spit this coin out as a reject: I did not have it in my coins, so it must have been from the last user. I'll take it. Also has "Republic of Singapore" on the reeded edge of the coin.

Nice score, santafeboy! Well, berto... and everyone else... I made a quick run into one of my local Ralph's stores after picking up some coins across the parking lot at one of my BofAs this morning... As I entered, I noticed the Coinstar machine going and a woman just about finished. I noticed she kept putting her coins in after pulling them from the reject slot... finally, when she was finished, she threw them in a box. I noticed there was a little over what looked like $1 or more in coins, so I flashed a $1 to her, so she took it, thanked me, and then let me pick out $1 (or what I thought was $1) from the rejects... It worked out very well! A 43-D Merc, and a 64-D Rosie!
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
