Another bank near me with a load of ikes! I got 70 (obviously at face, it's a bank ) Now I have about 150, 10 are unc proof (all bought at face from key bank) For a poor college student, it's too much cash to sit on. I'm going to start putting them up on ebay now. I'm glad, because ebay is fun too, and I don't need a hoard of ikes when I have student loans. As long as I have my beautiful deep cameo proof ikes I'm happy :D I also saved as many of the different different business strikes as I could. Never did find D mint of one of them though. Can't remember which date. Any way, I'm happy about that, thought I would share my hoard excitement! Also, I found a 2 cent euro in a penny roll today. haha I love adding odd things to my collection! HH

Congrats on the Ike score Broseph. I just got my first Ike from a Credit Union not long ago. I have since started a Dansco Ike Album. The hunt is on. I hope to get as lucky as you and find a Ike hoard soon.
Good luck in school. I finished my Degree in 2003. It was well worth all the struggling.

Nice haul :-) I was able to nab a full roll of Ikes a few weeks back at face. They're tough to find in large numbers, but if you're patient enough someone eventually turns a few in at a time. :-)
70, though! Sweet! :-)

Yeah, the last haul I got 82. There were 164 but I didn't have the money so my friend bought half. At least its in the family! Friends are like family, right? lol Before that it was 1 here, 3 there, and that one time I got the proofs! My friend and I split those, I got 10 he got 5 (he knows I'm more into coins than him ^_^)

Talked my Brother this morning about starting an Ike album, and he remembered that our Dad saved Ikes when he was alive. My Brother took them out of the paper rolls and put them in 2x2's for storage. I now have them, all 48 of them. I'm not sure what to look for other than dates and mint marks. I remember a link to "The Ike Group" from another thread here. I'll check them out for any varieties and errors. List of Coins: 40 1971-D 1 1971-P 1 1971-S 2 1972-D 1 1974-D 1 1977-D 1 1978-D 1 1978-P For some reason my Dad also saved about 20 Kennedy halves from the 90's? He had a reason so I think I'll save these halves also. I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to keep these Ikes in the 2x2's or use some of them to fill holes in my album.

There are variations to ikes besides dates and mint marks, There are 2 different fonts in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and I believe 3 different earth strikes. Like the earth is actually a bit different. Really hard to tell with the naked eye, Its minute. The continents are shifted and such.

We like Ike! Even though most Ike's are clad, holding any large dollar in your hands just feels nice. Murphy- you can start a thread with a picture of the Kennedy halves and see if anyone on here can help explain about the coins. or just start a thread with pictures cause threads with pictures are fun.

Thanks Shirayasha. Broseph, I didn't realized how many varieties there were until I did a little research last night. My Dansco has only 32 holes. Of which there is only 1 hole for the 1972-P. But the Red Book shows that there are 3 different varieties for this coin? And I'm still trying to understand all the differences in the 1976's. I don't think I did this much homework in college.

Steele,
I don't think there is any numismatic value in the Kennedy's. They are mostly 1993's through 1998. My Father did not collect error coins to my knowledge. I think he collected them because he probably found them at the bank and they were in good shape.
Even though I have a circulated Kennedy album, I don't think I'm going to use any of these coins to "upgrade". I'll just keep them in either 2x2's or put them in airtites because they were my Dad's.

Yeah, those variations are sort of "lesser known" and I wouldn't expect a book to have slots for them. The mint was trying to perfect the coin as they went!

Thanks for the info Broseph. That makes sense. If you were going to put 1 1972-P into an album, what variety would you use? The Red Book shows variety 2 has more value but I was thinking about just finding the best looking coin to fill that hole?

I'm no expert on hole filling, but I'm pretty sure the idea of displaying them is for them to look nice, I'd go with the one that looks best to you!

Not long ago I came across $200 in excellent condition Ikes at my coin dealer. I bought them all, and kept what I needed for my album, and a roll of the best ones. Called another dealer to see if he wanted them, but he didn't; so I regretfully dumped them at the bank. Don't really have time for ebay or calling all the coin shops. Before that, I had picked $52 worth at a TD Bank out of my area. I started another Ike topic here for anyone's perusal: https://goccf.com/t/128402
