My old bank used to have a lot of CWR. There were a few stores that dumped stuff there, and apparently a lot of normal customers too. I don't find as many CWR her.e I guess I should just start asking to get EVERY CWR now, not just pennies. I usually only do pennies because that way I still get lots of coppers and wheats, where as a few rolls of dimes or quarters a week wouldn't get as far as the same amount of money in penny rolls.
Since this area doesn't seem to have many CWR, I guess I will just start getting them all now that I have a bit of money to work with.

I have no problem getting Customer Wrapped Rolls. Halves may be harder to find, but I can usually get $30-$120 between 2 or 3 banks. There aren't many coin counters here, but many banks. I have one branch that calls me every two weeks with $1,000 in cwr dimes. I go through about $20k-$25k in dimes alone every year, on average. I don't search many cents, nickels, or quarters, but they are always there.

CWR: Customer Wrapped Rolls (of coins from banks) as opposed to BWR (bank wrapped rolls)
Different banks work different ways. There are many banks that will not accept rolled coin from their customers; if a customer wants to deposit coins they are given a bank bag to put the loose coin in, the customer gives it to the teller, and they are informed in a day or two how much was deposited after the bank counts it. I don't know how many banks you have to choose from, but I go to a number of banks and buy a small quantity of CWR's at each stop. That way I don't wear out my welcome. Most banks that have CWR's are happy to get rid of them because business customers prefer BWR's because they are more accurately counted.

I don't seem to have any trouble getting CWR of any denomination. Except Dollars, I don't search Dollars so I haven't asked before. With that being said, I typically find that CWR, they are normally someones dump. But I still try them when I cannot bet a bank box.

I wouldn't say CWR's are rare. Banks may not be allowed to sell them out to customers, but that's not typical for most banks.

As someone mentioned up above, I think it might have a lot to do with the availability of coin machines. There are a lot of TD banks near me, and they have a coin machine or even 2 coin machines in almost every branch.
There's also at least 3 other banks I have found in close proximity that have counters; one even has free to customers AND non-customers.

Yeah, a lot of people in NY don't mind the 10% take from coinstars. I mostly see lower income people care less about such fees. What I tend to see is that people who don't respect the value of a dollar are doomed to have very few.
And when I say "the value of a dollar" I mean frugality. Don't say fiat! lol

Broseph, Here in Scotland, those machines have a take that's as much as 23% (eg, in Tesco) in such cases.
Banks generally won't accept change except made up in bags of standard amounts - £20 of £1 coins, £10 of 50p OR 20p coins, £5 of 10p OR 5p coins, £1 of 2p or 1p coins, and even then they refuse to accept them unless you bank with them.
So people with no bank account (the lower income population) either accept such fees or carry large amounts of change for their shopping.
Mind you, I suspect some people can't count. The machines don't make their take obvious; and I've found that many people just don't understand percentages.
