Looks like a die gouge. Polishing tends to be much thinner in width and shallower in depth. Looks clash-like... which reverse, what date? I'm not familiar with Kennedy's so much.

It's a 1994 P Kennedy half dollar. It is in BU condition. Incidentally, I have a decent amount of them and they all have the same effect around the nose. So we settled on die gouge? |

I looked up die gouge and it didnt seem to fit. Are you sure this is a die gouge? I just posted it because I thought it was funny not realizing it may be some sort of error. Is this something that would command a premium over .50? Or the opposite: given that this is a BU Kennedy half dollar does this make it less desirable? |

It's interesting that you have more that have the same marks.
Are there any other marks that they all have in common?
Is there a noticeable progression in size or depth?
I'm just curious.

Die abrasion to cover a previous clash. The devices will be affected when they polish the fields to remove the clash.

While roll hunting I came across a ton of BU 1994 P coins. I saved a majority of them and didnt really inspect them further. I just pulled out a roll of them to find a good one for my Dansco which just came in the mail. The entire roll had that mark by the nose. Other than that, I didnt notice anything in common. Some had minor dings but all have very good luster. I have 5 more rolls which most likely have the same mark but I have not inspected them yet. I'm in the process of moving so they're packed for now.
