This is my first Coin Community post, hello to all. I am very excited about the new Presidential dollar series and wanted some feedback from some of you experts. Basically I want to collect the entire set of the Presidential dollar collection. Below I have listed my plan for collecting these coins, I want to know from you all if you have any further suggestions, or let me know if I have left something out. My Complete Presidential dollar Collection will consist of the following: One coin of each president minted in Denver. One coin of each president minted in Philadelphia. One unopened coin roll of each president minted in Denver. One unopened coin roll of each president minted in Philadelphia. One proof coin of each president. So far I have purchased two rolls of P dollars. I leave one as is in the roll. I opened the other roll and put each coin in an air-tite container. I guess in order to have a true complete collection, I would also need to purchase the rolls and bags from the mint, however I dont think that I will: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...tegory=16238I am from Illinois and am having a very hard time finding Denver rolls. Is anyone running into the same situation out west with Philadelphia rolls?

Sounds as though you have it pretty well covered. I'm sure there will be varieties and mint errors that you will need to add if you are to have a "complete set." :o)

sound like a great plan. but if was you I would hang around here a while and get to know everyone and ask questian and help use. and as soon as you get to 50 post there are members here who could probaly help you out with the Denver roll. I know most here will charge far less then the mint prices. or my just do a trade. here is what I ma doing. getting one roll of Denver to open to put toghter set for me and my family and of future sell. trading for one Phille roll to open and use for sets. the third roll I am getting which I just bought friday I will leave it unopened. I do not know if this set will go up alot in value some say it will some say it will not, but the way I see it is I buy my rolls from the bank and trade the other I loss no money.
O ya I will also be buying the standard Proof set and the mint set and posably the 4 pres. indivdal proof set, so that is my plan
1. denver opened 1. Phil. opened 1 denver unopend 1 standard Proof set 1 Pres only proof 1 Mint set
so the only thing I will not be buying is the silver proof sets.
but looks like you are to a good start with your new collection
Also and welcome to the family

Welcome to the forum,
You have a great plan to start a collection. The US mint will be selling the 4 Presidential proof set sometime in spring.

Welcome to the forum!! I can think of only one other possibility you might consider. There is an outside chance that the mint will produce silver Presidential dollars. As I understand it, such production would require an Act of Congress, and is not likely to happen. However it is a possibility. This is the primary reason I have waited to purchase a Dansco Album for the Presidential dollars. Should silver coins be minted, there would need to be another space in the Dansco Album for each President. I too am excited about the new issue, and even though there have been some disappointments, I have had some fun with the Washington Dollars so far. I just gave away two rolls of "D" mint dollars. If I acquire more, I will let you know. Again, welcome to the forum.

I know a few people who think a complete set would be the following:
One coin of each president minted in Denver. (Edge writing up) One coin of each president minted in Denver. (Edge writing Down)
One coin of each president minted in Philadelphia. (Edge writing up) One coin of each president minted in Philadelphia.(Edge writing Down)
One unopened coin roll of each president minted in Denver. One unopened coin roll of each president minted in Philadelphia. One Mint set One proof Set

What would the difference be between a mint set and a proof set? And what would be the pres only proof? I am currently suscribing to the Proof set: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ory_rn=16738Good comment Tpanta on the idea of keeping one showing edge writing up and edge writing down. I would not consider a set not complete if it didnt include error coins. The chances of finding a coin without in god we trust, a coin with in god we trust double stamped, or a blank obverse and/or reverse is very slim.

Mint set is the Philly and Denver coins with a satin finish. Proof set is the San Francisco coin with a mirror finish.

Okokok, I am confused. After going nuts running from bank to bank the last week, I can only find rolls from Philadelphia (This could be the stupid question of the week here so bare with me). Ready, here it comes: How can you tell if an unopened roll of dollars is minted in Philadelphia or Denver? Ok, not that you have stopped laughing... I have basically been asking for rolls, and looking at the roll. All the rolls that I have seen say "N.F.String & Son, Inc. Harrisburg, PA., U.S.A." Being the 24 year old scholar that I am, I assumed this ment they were minted in Philadelphia. So today I go to a Bank of America and look at an individual coin finally finding a Denver. I proceed to the the teller that I will take two rolls. She comes out with two rolls marked as I described above. So right now I am strolling around ebay, every picture under golden dollar rolls Denver mint has the PA on the label. For reference: http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-BOTH-P-D-W...HT_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/200091571045 target= _blank rel= nofollow 200091571045 /a QQcategoryZ149688QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem For those of you that are still laughing, you can stop. Its not that funny. So now I am thinking I am an idiot, all of the coins are wrapped in Harrisburg PA. Is this correct? If this is correct then how do you tell if your unopened rolls are minted in Denver or Philadelphia? If you cant tell the difference without opening the roll, then that would be an incentive to purchasing the $35 dollar rolls from the mint (I have not seen this pro listed in that discussion). Can someone clear this up for me please.

N.F. String & Son, Inc. is the manufacturer of the wrapper, they have nothing to do with rolling the coins. Generally, if your Federal Reserve District is located east of the Mississippi, you will get Philadelphia (for new coinage) and west of the Mississippi will be Denver.
