I just finished my Circulated Jefferson nickel Set - and they all came from pocket change. It's taken in the neighborhood of two years to finish, but I've got all 158 of them from 1938 through 2007D. No proofs, or varieties, but that's cool with me. Grades will range from, like, very fine to full steps. Some appear to be uncirculated, but they DID come to me by way of pocket change. Anyway, I think it's cool, and wanted to share with y'all. Ralph Edited by Ralph 05/23/2007 1:14 pm

That's awesome, Ralph. A full set is an accomplishment in itself, but a full set acquired in change is a whole 'nuther thing entirely. Definitely worth beating your chest about. Now you're going to shoot for a full set of clad coinage from change, right?

Dave - already got 'em. I've got all the clad Roosevelt dimes from 1965 through 1998D. And, I've got all the clad Washington quarters from 1965 through 1998D. All of them have come from change over the past couple of years. All in all, I reckon I've done pretty good when it comes to the clad coinage out of pocket change. And - the price was right for all three sets! - Ralph

Correction on the Roosevelt dimes - After I posted my message, I got them out and looked 'em over - I've got them all the way from 1965 through 2006 - still lacking 2007. Reckon that's because it takes awhile for new coins to surface in my little town.

Ralph: Congrads-----"finished my Circulated Jefferson nickel Set" , did you get the 1950-D also from pocket change? when I completed my set, that was the only one I had to purchase. Ron (ronaldb112)

Yes Ron, each and every one of them were found in pocket change. I posted a scan of my 1950-D in the Coin Grading Fourm if you'd care to take a peek at it.

Great accomplishment, even more so because they came from pocket change! Back in the 60's I must have looked through several hundred rolls of nickels looking for a 38-D and 50-D plus my daily change for years and no luck. I would have thought it an impossible task today, even starting a few years ago. I did find a 41 Jeff in change today, about G condition.
Again, Well done!!!

Nice accomplishment Ralph!
I have been hoarding nickels for a few years, have around 4-5 .5 liter water bottles filled with them. Maybe someday when I have time I'll go through them. I wonder what are the chances I'll get them all?

That's outstanding. One more down and how many more to go?
