Both sides can be viewed in the following gallery.

These are the proposed designs, so potentially subject to some reworking, and it is likely to be a few more years before the RBA starts releasing them.

I like the new designs but I think the portraits are a bit cartoony. While the old ones were a bit serious they were stately.

Just a few observations:
The new notes have gone to a vertical flip between front and back - sides are upside down relative to each other.
It's hard to tell from the pictures whether the portraits are likely to remain intaglio, as the shading detail seems substantially finer than would normally be expected (line based and cross-hatching).
From my aesthetic, I find the designs clean and fresh, and would have to confer with comments that the portraits seem to have been given a much softer/younger treatment.

Intrigued by the possible changes in the designs of the notes but did anyone else have the feeling at first glance that they have a "Monopoly" money look?

Yep,looks like play money,i only caught the end of the Radio talkback caller this morning but it was in regards to the new notes and was something about phasing out the $100 note & having to go to the back with wads of $20?,no idea what it was all about.

Just did a Google, referring to the Grey/Black Economy.

I'll put money down on this to say these will either roll out from 2016, or rollout will be completed in 2016 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of decimal currency.

I've had a feeling that something big may have happened for that milestone.

Any takers?

Yep,i don't think much of the AUSTRALIA bit ( is that one of the new security measures ? ) & they are a bit too colourful, but probably just that they're so different from what we've had.

I agree, but apart from that, I don't mind the designs.

Hopefully these notes are just "demos" and the finished products will have more attention to the details of the portraits.

Its time we had an update to our banknotes, many of them are approaching 20 years old now. Technology has changed a lot since the early 90s.

I agree with Enworb,
That confirms my theory that notes will change at least once ever generation,
But surely the release of these fluro futuristic notes can only add great value to the 1st release of polymer notes?

I'll hold on to mine for 5 years, just in case.

On the other hand, they are very fresh and seem to be more uniform overall.
