G'Day Just sharing my recent work tracing the origins of a Japanese Invasion Money 10 Shilling short snorter that came into my friend's possession. http://alphanumis.blogspot.my/2016/...hilling.htmlHope you enjoy reading it. If happen to know or know of Betty or Bernard Weakley from Muttaburra QLD, let me know.

The history behind these items is more interesting than any UNC note, for sure.
I will have to try to find one of them.
I have seen short snorters that have 10 or 20 notes taped together.

Thank you for posting orion68 it made for a very interesting read.
You might try contacting the local school they may have some details of the Weakley descendants, or the local coppers, who tend to know everyone in their local area especially in the bush.

Thanks for your replies and feedback Basil, In2Fish2, oriole.
Basil - would be interesting to see the Jap Inv Money your uncle had. In fact I am collecting Oceania JIMs, especially the lower denomination and short snorters.

They're long gone but I run into it them every so often in Bulk buys,if I get some i'll keep them and let you know by PM.They bob up on ebay Australia every so often, usually go for a $ or so. The last lot I sold was about 5 years ago, about 10 Dutch(East Indies) notes and about 15 Jap Notes, put a stupid price on them and they sold same day on ebay so there are people collecting them.

Thanks Basil.
Guess what? I managed to get the photos of Betty and Bernard from National Archives of Australia !!
I even went through the digitized military records too - including the enlistment application form of both Betty and Bernard. I am checking on the details and will publish the details in Part 2 of this story.

The 10 shilling note is by far the scarcest of the denominations of the JIM Oceaniana series. A verified short snorter history makes this specimen all the more interesting and valuable.
Notaphilic value justifies that this one should be stored between mylar sheets, especially in the humid Malaysian environment.
