The qualities aren't there, so if you can get someone to pay melt for it, then go for it.

I recommend not selling it, and passing it on. If you don't have children of your own, or don't plan on having any, then consider the younger generation in your family. I'm a bit older than you, and don't really plan on having children. I've already passed on some of my coins to the next generation in my family, the oldest being 13 and 10. Those coins I passed to them were penny books from the early 1960s, put together by my great-grandfather born 1899.
In fact, some of those coins are stamped with his thumbprint, an obvious struggle with the old Whitman album.
Cheers!

It's tough to sell coins that are almost 100 years old at melt value, but unfortunately this is probably all that you will get for these. Unless you need the money, you should probably keep this set. You might even want to upgrade it someday. I started my merc dime set this way then I kept upgrading. This is a fun set to work on (if you want to).

well the thing is I NEED some extra money. MY wife and 11 month old are moving out of the in-laws FINALLY. I just got a job promotion and we finally have the means to move out. however the new security deposit was pretty hefty, hence I have been unloading my gold and silver, 1/10th oz AGE and $2.5 gold indian =( and possibly these mercs. the way I see it, if these were in at least AU or MS grades I wouldnt sell. I can pick most of these up again for melt. not to much sentimental value is held by these so would like $125 shipped be a fair price?

If you need the money, sell them. You can always start collecting Mercs at a later date, and if your work stability and income allow it, at a higher quality. If you need the money asap you will have to go locally to a shop and sell at the best melt price you can get. If you have time, you can throw it on e-bay and try to get more. 50+ pc. Merc sets on e-bay go for $120-150 dollars. Your $125 figure may not be achieved. You could also try Craigslist.

The best price for common mercs I've found in the area is 2.20 from a coin shop. So taht would work out to a little less than what you are asking. It is possible to get the 125 you are seeking, Just have to find the right buyer. It would be a great starter set for some one.

I'm a dealer and I think $125 shipped would be a fair price. But as someone pointed out in another thread, the high price of silver is bringing in a lot of silver to ebay right now; and actually depressing prices a bit. Meaning the base price is up but the premium is down.

Melt is at $122 right now. I think you could get that on craigslist. I just listed some silver at exactly melt and sold it withing 2 hours. I even had War Nickels in there that sold for melt which usually doesn't happen. The guy drove from Rancho Bernardo to San Diego. Try craigslist SD! It's especially nice that you have a lot of different dates. I would even list it at $130 on craigslist and see if anyone bites. Then just lower it to melt.

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...ctionID=5749This listing you have up for $290 looks like it is $310 at spot price. Dude you should also list it on craigslist but at $310. Where do you live in north county again? I might know a guy who would buy it at $310. The guy from Rancho Bernardo, I could mail him if you want?
