I never even knew this dime existed till I saw one on ebay. Thought I had them all in my album, which I do but there is no slot for this variety. Why? Why was it not put in the 7070 album. Its expensive but not that high. Does the Intercept Shield album carry it? Feel like my collection is missing something now. Need some input on this "No Stars Seated dime". Thanks edgman

This still doesn't address the question. I to am curious. If you compare your 7070 to the Red Book you will see many varieties that there are no holes in the 7070 for.

It's called Variety 1 - No Stars on Obverse. Only minted 1837-P and 1838-O. There are also two 19th Century quarters not represented in the 7070. Draped Bust - Heraldic Eagle reverse (1804-1807) Capped Bust - Variety 1 - Large Diameter (1815-1828) These plus the No Stars dime were in a type set album I put together in the 50s & 60s. Don't know the manufacturer since I have long ago discarded the album. Sorry I have just added to your question instead of answering it.

Quote: Why? Why was it not put in the 7070 album. Same reason they put that ultra rare Morgan in the album that leaves a hole for everyone (except for what, like 10 people in the world?). The people who make the albums don't always make the best decisions when it comes to which types and varieties of coins to include. That is why you see some people making "slabbed" 7070's with extra variations, and some people get extra pages to put these coins in. Others have just discarded the albums altogether and are doing a "free" type set.

Do a slabbed type set and add it and the 1837 in there

You may have made a decision for me. I think some of my coins like the large cents, 2 cent piece, etc. look lost in the album. Am think about going to slabbed trays with the coins. Just got last call for Dinner. Talk later.
Thanks

The no stars dime has always been one of my favorites, the design looks so clean compared to the rest of the series.

Neat! I didn't know about these. Another reason to give up the rigid Dansco for a more loose type set.

When I restarted collecting last year, I was going to buy a 7070. I'm glad they were out of stock...
I am now going to work on my own type set. That way I can be assured I'll never get it completed.

Anybody want to buy a used Dansco 7070 album. Only kidding for right now. That no-star dime is impressive. I want one in my collection! Was just going to donate my old slabs, plastic 2x2's and Air-tites to the local Thrift Shop. Will look into this and see what I need.
Thanks, have to go bid on that coin.

I think they left it out because there is already 3 liberty seated variations of the Half Dime, dime, quarter and half. That means that 12 of the 76 coins in the type set are seated libertys a big portion of the set. You could easily add to more varieties too the 1853 with arrows and rays then the 1854 and 1855 just arrows. Then the 1873 with arrows with motto. I think they left out some seated libertys so it didn't dominate the type set as the most prevalent design.

Edgman If you want a more complete type set album, get the Whitman Bookshelf Version (two parts), it has almost every type coin listed in the RedBook. Just don't plan on finishing it anytime soon unless you have really deep pockets. It's a great album, I probably have an extra in my garage if you think you really want the challenge.

Hey jfransch can you list what's in that Whitman set. I think when you finish your 7070 it might be fun to switch to the more complete type set well at least when your happy with your 7070 I could see myself upgrading a complete 7070 for a year or two :).

I agree. Go albumless when doing a type set. I sold an empty 7070 on ebay a couple years ago and dont regret it.

Ok took me a while to track down this album he's talking about and wow that is an imposing set. Whitman Bookshelf album United States Type Set Small Coins #9434 is the first one I am guessing the large coins are next haven't found that album yet. That small set has a chain set in wow and a wreath and 5 different versions of the Half Cent. Imposing to say the least, off to see if I can find the large coin album. And like he said it does have a spot for that dime as well as the 1873-74 that had arrows with motto.
