I like going for the unusual for my slabbed 7070 and I wanted to see what the CCF has to say about UNC cracked dies.

Would you want one on your collection?

Thanks as always!

They're very common on Mercs, that's for sure. The one on the neck and the wingtip one are common throughout the series, but the one to the right of the B going through the hair is a little more unusual.

I think I saw this one on the bay the other day, little expensive for my taste, die crack isn't that strong for the premium seller wanted.

On UNC coins, personally, if I'm dropping dough on a nice MS example... I don't want any cracks at all.

A single example for a 7070? No.
If I had a complete set of Mercury dimes and wanted to study the series in depth, then I would buy die cracks and die breaks in addition to the set.

I like them when I find them but don't normally seek them out.

It really depends upon the series. Since I collect Bust halves, the die cracks are markers for varieties. There are other series of which that is true. Personally, I like coins with a lot of die cracks because that indicates a coin that is at the end of the life of the die, and that interests me more than an early strike off of that same die.

I guess that you will always have a division of opinion in cases like this.
Mine is that a small die crack makes no or little difference, and this dime is well worthy of inclusion in a 7070 set.

I like it. Die cracks and other minor errors add a little more character and help you build some uniqueness into your collection.
Rest in Peace

A crack that goes from rim to rim is definitely worth a premium in my opinion and would fit into my collection.

Did you pick this one up? If so, nice pick!
