I'm not sure if this is common or not, but here are two Lincoln wheats cents with the bottom of the 5 in the date touching the top of the mint marks.

Some are collectable , but remember that the mintmarks were put on by hand , and may be in different locations from coin to coin. At least thatn what I know. I am sure there are people who know lots more about it.

Actually the mintmarks can only be in different places from die to die, not coin to coin. Every coin struck by any given die will have the mintmark in the exact same place since the mintmark is in the die - not added to the individual coins.

And yes, it is common for the mintmark to be very close to the digits of the date on Lincoln cents.
