Pitty it isn't a dropped 1 as well. The values I have seen for these are all over the place. Does someone know what they go for?

I think one dealer I've been to had different prices for the different obverses, but I didn't take much notice as it wasn't what I was looking for at the time.

Looking at ebay BIN prices it seems as if they are quite a bit pricier than the london obverse. This is the first indian die I have found that wasnt already identified as one so I think they are quite a bit scarcer than the london obverse.

Following your post yesterday I fast tracked through my pennies to 1931. I found a total of eight, with one being an Indian obverse.(no dropped 1 on this one). This one was stored in a Rennicks album with plastic sleeves. The sad thing is it has been cleaned or toned by 40 years in the plastic (or both). I have memories (or nightmares) from the sixties of collectors cleaning coins using a local weed known in South Australia as 'sour sobs'. Perhaps some of the older members can recall this horror.! If this coin is a victim then it must have worked because it is still horribly shiny.! Of the remaining 7 coins 6 are dropped 1 variety with one solitary 1 in standard position. Photos to follow.!

Ive never heard of sour sobs being used to clean coins. Will have to give it a go when I get home.

VF/gVF (a pity about the verdigris & the cleaned spots around the 1931 on the reverse (the reddish areas). On ebay you'd probably get around $60-$110. Coin shop would probably sell it for $150-$250.

I had a close look at this coin last week and noticed the cleaning around the date. My guess it was one of those jewellers microfibre cloths. I sold it to a dealer because if rather have no coin than one thats not up to scratch. The hunt continues.....
