I was wondering what you think the value to this set(http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/...4089456.html) would be. I can't find this one online anywhere, but I can find ones like it. I apologize if I am doing something against the rules by posting the link.

The older nickels (the V and Buffalo) in the set are most likely not key dates (since the people who put these together are normally trying to find a way to maximize profit off of something of little value), these can be had for under a dollar each at a coin store. The War Nickel is worth its silver melt value - at present 1.91. The hologram/painted coins have no added value in the coin hobby and a lot of collectors see this as damage.

As to the gold plated piece - there is not enough gold to warrant any price extra value to the nickel. Gold plating adds so very little gold to anything that the gold value is almost not worth mentioning.

Generally this kind of set is made by those looking to make a buck from the "Oooooh shiny!" crowd. People invest in these kinds of things thinking they will get a good return on the investment. They are disappointed when they try to sell them.

So although the set looks nice - made to do so in order to sell - the coins themselves are not worth much at all. Now if you like the presentation case/packaging and that makes it worth it to you - then its a good price but only b/c YOU LIKE it.

Thank you. I will not buy this. I looked up the V and Buffalo, they are worth about $2.75 together. I was just thinking ohhh shiny.

Common sets found in many coin stores, flea markets, etc. People buy those little plastic things and put all sorts of just common coins in them. Just a selling gimmick.
