My guess is vf-20, but the photo's are a little fuzzy, I can't see the horizontal or vertical lines in the shield,it's possible the reverse is a little better but would need a clearer pic. I must be getting old, the more I stare at the obv pic, the more it looks like an 1843 vs 1845. Nice coin.

Probably at least VF-20. LIBERTY appears complete and Seated dollars with weakness on BER can receive grades as high as EF from grading services. The diagonal stripe looks like some kind of stain from improper storage. It might be removable using a water or acetone soak, carefully applied. This piece is definitely an 1843. The 1845 is a tough date, much harder to find than the 1843. I don't see any obvious problems or authenticity issues. However, counterfeit Seated dollars are common and sometimes very deceptive. Every one needs to be carefully examined to ensure it is a real one.

Details look VF+ to me. Close to XF actually. Are these scans of the coin or are the surfaces really dull with a matte appearance?
This could be a valuable ($1,000+) coin if it graded XF problem-free or a $300 coin if it graded VF+ Details.
EDIT: Prices above were for an 1845.

The pics are scans from the seller so I can't say if it is dull. I had placed a max bid o $250 on it not expecting to win but ended up winning after all for $249.05 Can anyone provide some tips on what to examine to ensure it is authentic once I receive it? Obviously I know the magnet test and will weigh it. It should be 26.73 g correct?

Some of the lettering looks a bit weak but I am not sure if that is a result of the scans. Grade might be somewhere around a mid VF. The diagonal stripe looks like it could possibly be the result of the sulfur in a rubber band.

I have just been looking at some Krause photo grading standards, to quote, in part: "VG 8 (very good)The coin will show considerable wear, with most detail points worn nearly smooth". Compared to the standard photo gradings, this coin seems to me to be between VG-8 and F-12. I am still looking for a seated reasonable Seated dollar. I know I have set myself a difficult task. Almost all Seated dollars saw very heavy and extended use in circulation.

If that coin is genuine, you got a good deal for $249. It has almost XF detail and even if it's cleaned, it would be worth $249. Look at the hair just above the ear, it's one of the highest points on Seated dollars and is generally flat on VF20 pieces. That coin still has detail there pushing it to VF30 minimum. The coin should weigh 26.7 grams, be 38.1 mm in diameter, and be non-magnetic! The earlier prices I quoted were for a different date (the one in the title).

I'd think it might go VF25 at a top TPG, nice coin for a good price too! Hopefully in hand it is as nice and not a net details coin.

Best of luck, hope that it's as authentic as you want it to be. Keep in mind there is always the return policy, hope your seller has one attached to his auction.

Even if he doesn't, you can always return through ebay buyer protection but be VERY careful to use it correctly or you could get messed up. Signature confirmation, etc. I almost got scammed out of $500 once from taking a risk on bad pictures...I knew it was about 50/50, but if I had not used signature confirmation I would have lost a lot of money.
