Not just crooks, but crooks who seem to feel it necessary to maximize the rip-off, as if it were a game.

^^^ ASYNONLINE.COM

Looks like at some point last year Googy was thinking of opening up an online store outside of ebay.

SPP: Thanks for this info, I knew these places were bad but I didn't know they were that bad.
I had been steering people away from "the Great Canadian Road Show" but when this "new" show called the "Canadian Coin Association" showed up I actual thought for a while that it was legit, until I started hearing similar stories. So thanks for clearing up that mystery.
Also, I applaud for all of you who have stood up to these guys.

Market place has been challenged to do an expose on this. However since the CBC ran a show with glowing results of this company it seems very unlikely they will do/allow any show casting a true light on the fraudsters.
The RCMP commercial crimes units have "NO time" for such minor(?) fraud. I am hoping the Financial Post will get on board as they were the publication which assisted me some years ago in the fight against counterfeits from China. Where are those wind mills any ways........

TV?

From August, a CBC Newfoundland radio interview:

http://www.cbc.ca/player/Radio/Loca.../2271028087/

Seems to indicate (near the end of the interview) that "the Great Canadian Road Show" and the "Canadian Coin Association" are associated.

every one of you complaining about what they offer has probably bought or sold something on ebay at least once right?

when buying, if you got a steal of a deal, did any of you offer the seller more money after you bought the item?

if you ever sold anything, and got more than you expected, have you ever offered the buyer a refund?

didnt think so.

any person who has sold to these guys, or other 'cash for gold' companies has the option of getting offers from other sources.

Did I somehow eliminate all the other bids, or block bids? No.

Do they ban and throw out people coming there to make fairer offers? Yes.

The issue is trust. They are preying on the naive and uneducated. They claim to be "experts".

And, for the record, when I do get what I consider an extraordinary deal, I do look to see if the seller has another coin I would like. And on a number of occasions I've compensated with another purchase. So, yeah, think so.

how is that even close to the same thing?

you're telling me if you got a coin for 25% of trends that you'd be willing to buy something else for 2x trends to make up for it? B.S. you might buy another coin (never hurts to spread shipping costs over more than one item) but that second coin you bought wasnt at a loss out of the goodness of your heart.

instead of people bashing this guys why dont you go into competition with them? sounds like they should be easy to go up against. go coast to coast, pay all the expenses, take all the risks. and in the end, if you happen to make a profit, donate it all to charity. that's the reason to go into business right?

Huge difference. These people are offering to buy and say they have made people rich by letting them know when they bring in something valuable. They tell stories about people who have benefited from their expertise. I wonder if any of these stories are true? Perhaps this is a weakness in their business we can look closer at. I had my local newspaper email PDFs of ads placed by these people to me and will follow up. When I buy online or from a dealer they are the seller who has advertised and I don't expect they need me to educate them.

It probably isn't very profitable to do one of these road shows without ripping people off. That doesn't make it OK to rip people off.

don't get me wrong, I am not defending what they are doing, just their right to do so.

its easy to sit back and pick apart what they are doing when we aren't the ones paying their bills.

they have to net almost 16 oz of silver just to pay $500 for a 4 day business license. if they are paying 25% below melt that means they have to take in 64 oz of silver in 4 days... just for their business license. they still haven't paid rent, their employees, advertising or travel expenses etc etc etc.

i really think them picking off high value coins for melt would be the extreme rarity, not the rule. for every time they score I bet they have another 'show' where they loose money. either way the risk, and reward is theirs.

if not its called leaching, and its in as poor taste as what they are doing.

Surely there are better ways to make a living than taking advantage of others. Yes, they have to make a living, but when they would attempt to maximize their profits to such an extent, their actions are shameful.

The bills they need pay are only generated by them knowing they will have to be dishonest (according to their ads and the way they present themselves as fair and knowledgeable). Making a profit is one thing. Taking people for a ride under the umbrella of calling yourself professional and honest is another.

Wade, I like you and think most of the time that you usually have something interesting to say, but I have to disagree with you on this one. Your position on this is very much like the one BiggFredd (RIP) took a while ago on another similar thread on here.

I buy and sell all the time. I don't like getting burned for things, and I always look to pay fair prices when I buy.

Preying on the unaware is flat out wrong no matter if you have a business license or not. I'm pretty sure that the license doesn't say "Okay, you have the right to go across the country and rip as many people off as posssible so you can make a few bucks.

As a business, I don't think much of this one or any other "roadshow" type thing. Back in the old days, they'd call people like this "shysters" and as soon as people caught on, they'd be run out of town.

Just my 2 cents.
