I bought an auction Lot of silver florins in a local auction offered at silver melt value, total is 6 troy oz asw
turns out there was 2 pieces of 1911, 2 pieces of 1912 & one 1915H
but the five coins are all in G to VG, and the krauss book only starts at grade F at US$27 (my Krauss is 1998 issue)
does that mean if the grade is below F in Krauss it is then automatic at silver melt value? (now 0.3363 asw is about US$11 melt)
or a little above melt, say $15 each?
thanks, these gradings can become confusing

How about some photos? I would probably trust ebay for real-world values for coins like those.

It would depend just how worn they are, but the 1915H was a reasonably low mintage and would probably have a premium. The 1911 and 1912 weren't exactly high mintages either. My McDonald's catalogue (a local publication) gives the values for VG 1911 and 1912 as $38AUD and for VG 1915H $50AUD.

If they are such low grade I doubt there would be any premium on spot.

thanks all! I will get the pictures uploaded soonest Thanks Mr T, prices you mentioned are interesting, anything above melt is interesting as I won the bid at 60% off melt, the lot owner probably thought there would be a bid fight at such a low tipo, I was expecting it too, turns out I got lucky.. no one else was listening LoL!

the other two of the five, included in the 6oz scrap silver lot, are higher grades so easier to tag as vg

I think you basically have melt value there. About $10-12 each on ebay probably. That shouldnt deter you from keeping them as theyre still old coins that deserve a place in history. Imagine where theyve been!

I think that the ADVANCE AUSTRALIA may need to be fully legible for them to be VG but they're not too bad. I've seen gap-fillers with almost nothing left of ONE FLORIN - TWO SHILLINGS.
