http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sac...252068&rt=ncI see 4 PCGS MS 68 Kennedy halves. When I zoomed in, some had dents on the rim. When I looked at some MS 66 halves, they don't have dents on the rim, which surprises me. Has anyone seen a MS 68 Denver 2011 Half Bussiness strike? The reason that I ask is because I just searched through my bag of uncirculated haves ($100) that I purchased last year at the philedelphia mint. All my coins minted at philedelphia are either water damaged or scratched. Not many of them are actually MS 65 or plus. I have several Denvers of MS 66 plus. Just wondering if any of you have seen one or have any idea about why some higher grades have more rim damage than lower grades. I am a collector living in Canada and I don't have much experience with PCGS and their system. By the way, what's bunting label? Edited by Petersun 10/31/2012 12:15 am

Maybe I missed it but I didnt see any dents on those rims.
But PCGS has 6 ms 68 Denver for that year. 68 is the highest grade, the P has 4 69s as well. Theres about 100 less 67s in the D than the P too so it look like for now the P has a better batch come out from whats been sent into PCGS

Do you need a membership for PCGS certification? I have a Denver half that is at least MS 67.

Does Philedelphia issue a UNC set or something? Or a higher Mintage?

You do need to be a member to submit to PCGS.
They both issue uncirc coins and I'm almost positive the kennedys are only issued in collectors sets now.

You should be able to submit to PCGS through a dealer. John1

Good point john, just make sure its someone you really trust. Some online places like Silvertowne will do it for you as well, I'm not sure how much they charge, but unlike the small dealer they do enough business the chance of them swapping coins on you in a shipment is probably less since they dont need to to make money

I'm just afraid that I will get the coin back as MS 66.

Its very possible that would happen and theres no way to tell if that would happen or not. Unfortunately thats one of the risks of having it graded

You can specify that you don't want the coin slabbed if it doesn't grade 67 or better. Still gonna pay for it though. Send it to ANACS, no membership needed and cheaper.
The Kennedy's are issued as they have been since 02. In rolls and bags for collectors straight from the mint.

The Kennedy's shipped in bags usually come more banged up than those sold in the rolls which do have some protection from rubbing against each other.

This is excactly what happed to my bag of halves: I purchased it in Philedelphia last year. I had simply, at that time, no experience with US coins. I don't know what happened to the P coins as they're all water damaged. At the NYC airport, the machine just couldn't verify the content in my luggage bag. They opened the bag and took out the box. They ran the box alone into the machine, but it still didn't work. The opened the box. Instead of cutting open the bag, the officer grabbed the bag just to feel the coins. Therefore the coins were harshly abused. Thereafter, the officer wrapped several layers of "inspected" tape around the box.

Id say if your going to send it in say not to have it slabbed if it graded lower than like a 65. A 65 or 66 wouldnt be fun, but it still does increase the value a good amount to recoup what you can of the cost if youre planning to sell, and since your paying either way might as well get the slab. ANACS is also cheaper, but youll get a lower premium if it grades what you want on ebay for sure and maybe some other places fyi

The thing is, I live in Canada (40km from the border) and MS 65 just wouldn't recover the cost of certification and shipping and/or gas for Point Roberts, WA to get the packages. has anyone here own a MS 67 or 68 Half Dollar? There are always very minor dents on the rim and miniscule scratches at unfoucused areas, and that's what I am concerned about.
