No pro here but it looks like a lamination to me.

YES I am still up because of sixpence.
I have a belief that Unicorn is trying to wind you blokes up.
If you truly believe this is a lamination fault , then qualify that statement and explain as to why you came about this decision.
If this coin was put up on the bay everyone would be bagging it.
Just because a member posts it here you assume it is a genuine error.
have REAL good look at the pics/enhanced images and ask yourself.............is it a real error and would I pay more than melt for this.
Or is it PMD and I would look like an idiot for buying this coin.
These are the things we have to consider when looking at coins like this one

I reckon it's a legit lamination as well!
There's also a crack from the lamination near the dot in the legends & over the outer rim.

It is a delamination and it extends down to the rim as a strip as seen in the picture below. The first picture in the first post shows a faint line above the ear on the head, that could possibly be a further extension of the lamination. Damage to a coin will not cause the metal to flake and peel in thin ragged sheets but that appearance is a key diagnostic for planchet laminations.

Good morning Trout, whilst I love humour, I wouldn't do that.

This coin has had me in two minds for ages and has always been put to the side. Early in the discussion yesterday I was almost ready to put it into my cr@p coin tin. (But, as we both agree it's a nice coin!, so I hesitated). It's now been saved from that demise.

Well the sun came up, so I grabbed just a couple more pics in natural light to hopfully highlight some of the areas of the coin that have been discussed. (Best I can do with my pretty basic camera).

The first pic shows an interesting area from the A to the nose on the flat of the coin to the faults.

Thanks again to all.

I have quite a few decimal laminations and predecimals laminations. All the predecimals and on copper coins except for one silver threepence. This is one quite nice mate. Lucky it didnt go to the scrap bin.

Hmmmm....That's an interesting one robster. Similar features on both sides of the coin, and appear to be directly opposite each other.

I don't think I'd be happy making a call on this one without seeing the actual coin, so I'm just sitting on the fence for now (and it's not very comfortable either).

I thought I would post my "finding" from last night's noodling session under this topic, as I do not know if this is PMD.
This pertains to the lower bar in the "2" of the 1972 Twenty Cent coin. The details here are quite striking. The pattern is not apparent in the surrounding area of the coin, as one may expect with PMD. Picture attached below.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Squire
