im going here tomorrow since I'm off work tomorrow http://www.racecitycoins.com/i just called them and they say they have silver eagles for $38.50 so I'm picking one up is there anything else I should be on the look out for really or just whatever catches my eye and I can afford it? i got a bonus check from work the other day and wouldnt mind buying a few pieces if the price is right. do I have to be worried about the silver eagle being cleaned or dipped coming from a coin shop or is that only for private sellers?

38.50? You can get them cheaper than that!

If theyre the bullion eagles it wont matter if they were cleaned or dipped or eagles dont see circulation so cleaning isn't really an issue.

ok, so only circulated coins you have to worry about being cleaned and dipped. i tried finding cheaper than that but thats the closest coin shop near me and itll cost me more in gas to get to another one than it would be to buy the coin, plus ebay is more expensive +shipping too.

Spot is around $32.25. You are paying $6.25 over spot. Many stores only charge $3-4 over spot. If you are only buying one coin that is fine. If you are buying more you might want to look at APMEX. They are currently charging around $36.84 per coin. Also check if you pay sales tax in your state. In WI that $38 coin would be well over $40. That is too high. If they are high on Silver Eagles make sure you watch the prices on other coins. They may be high on everything.

On one coin, probably not. Depends what they bought it at and how long it has been sitting. When silver was at $4 per oz these were selling for $6 each.
Again if you are only buying one coin the premium is not bad. Once you get one in your hands you will be hooked. It is a beautiful coin.

yeah, I'm just buying the one coin and a few dollars probably isn't much to worry about, I've been told how beautiful it is before and always wanted one in my collection, only other uncirculated coin in my silver is a 1964 Kennedy half

haha, I love mystery bags, I did one once a while ago at a card shop in new york for a dollar and got a jaromir jagr autograph picture.
maybe ill do one there if they have any cheaper ones no more than 10 dollars? is that how much they would normally go for?

I agree about buying a mystery bag for fun and searching the bargain bin -- which is a usually a little plastic bucket at the shop I go to. I think it would be fun to pick out a few things that catch your eye. I wandered around on the site you posted and I think I'd skip the silver eagle. They're selling a PCGS slabbed 1943 Walking Liberty half graded MS 63. Their price: $43. Numismedia Fair Market Value: $52 But you probably have made up your mind to get the silver eagle -- and I understand that for sure. Hope you have a goood day shopping.

thanks, and yeah, I've pretty much made up my mind on the silver eagle, I dont mind paying that much for the one coin, I dont buy silver often, I usually try to find it at face value. I have two jobs so my tips at my second job will make up for it
if they have bargain bins ill look through and see what I find
also, what does half graded mean? maybe I should pick that up instead? but I'm afraid numismatic value might not be worth much soon so I think ill stick to bullion
