Yes, like fioti stated, look for "bargain boxes" that some shops have. I've done quite well picking through these.

Yeah, some of that, I've also found silver that was less than spot and one time a PCGS sample slab for a couple bucks. Sometimes the shop owner forgot what he threw in there and can care less at checkout.

I would definitely bring some cash. Keep an open mind as you never know what you will find. Let us know if you find anything.

he had tons of stuff, lots of silver coins from other countries, a lot coins he was selling at melt because they were junk were a lot of walking liberties a few morgans a little over spot, he had paper money, a bucket of world coins I picked out a few that looked cool to me one was a centennial commemorative 1986 liberty that says "made of authentic material which I'm assuming is what the statue of liberty is made of?
i ended up getting an '89 silver eagle because I didnt like the white/matte finish the 2012 had
no bargain bins and grab bags though
and good thing I got my silver eagle when I did because a guy that came in a few minutes after me bought the rest of the silver eagles he had for his grandson, makes me wish my parents or grandparents wouldve set something up like that for me when I was young

Very, very nice.
You did good. You got what you originally wanted and it's a beauty.
I see that it's in plastic -- make sure it's not that crummy vinyl that ruins coins. Sometimes dealers use those because they are cheaper. The assumption is that you need to protect the coin in something until you get it home where you will it will be properly stored.
And I see that you got some world coins. I think it's just a lot of fun to have some of those -- and that three pence is older than me!
Also great timing -- at least you got to choose before that guy came in and bought the rest.
Sounds like you had a good time at the coin shop.

The bad vinyl is soft and bends easily. Mylar is stiff and feels like it will crack if you bend it. Leaving silver in vinyl will, over time, turn the silver into green slime...it eats away at the coin. If you're collecting ASE coins then you will find a lot of nice options for proper storage.

Hopefully you tried to talk to the people in that shop. Even if you don't live near them, pretend you do an sort of say you would be back a lot now that you know this place is here. Most plases like the thought of creating a steady customer. And if you do go back, try reminding them of what you purchased the last time you were there. And don't always believe someone just walked in and purchased a lot of coins. That too is sometimes a gimmick. Some stores have someone that does that. Usually a relative that walks in and buys a lot of something right in front of you so you think this is a great place. One coin/stamp/hobby type store in a crowded area I know has a so called customer pretending to look at things all day long. That is his job. And I like those swords on the wall. And too as already mentioned, try to find coin shows in your area. Much better assortment and usually much better prices.

I think you usually have to buy sets of coin holders and some people really don't like air tights...maybe it is hard/impossible to get the coin out once it's inside.
I just get one of those red coin boxes that comes with a fifty Mylar double-pocket holders. All the coins I have will fit into those and I can 'file' them in the boxes.
