My local coin dealers, two different stores, won't even look at these types of coins, they tell me that they do not deal in error coins. They also tell me that these coins can have the plating removed by acid and that there is no way to tell the difference. There are ways to tell the difference, I just do not know how. Does anyone have a link or info they could share with me about plating issues and how to tell the difference between acid coins?

Thanks for your time!

chzman - I have a coin like yours and was told it was more than likely PMD and someone could have used acid to give it this effect. Here is a pic and the weight of the coin is 2.48g. Also on mine it looks like there is some copper on it in places, and yours doesn't look to have copper on it to me. But, I'm no pro so I would like to hear what others have to say.

Here is info from my forum:http://www.lincolncentresource.com/...d_Cents.html

Best to send to an attributer like Mike Diamond for a couple of bucks as they are best determined in hand versus pics.

I see copper on the high spots of the bust and what looks like pitting on the obverse. These ombined would lead me to say acid dip but if the spots are just that, spots, then I might send it to an expert.

pitting looks the same as the "92" to me and the rims are still up, not melted down. Maybe I can get someone to look at it.

Then please create your own thread for your coin. It is considered very impolite to wrench the attention from the original poster's coin to one of your own.

there not the same cents at all. the second one is PMD clearly it was striped but the one you have dosnt look stripped you can see the imperfections of a stripped coin when using a loop you might have one that wasnt plated there not worth a whole lot in the mid 90's but at least its worth something if not a neat piece to have. so at a glance at the pic id say real

Compare the cartwheel on the plated coin to yours. I'm no expert, but I think it was struck that way.
