I was checking out that home shopping network channel on my lunch break and they were selling NGC Franklin halves. They pointed out how great of a deal you were getting based on the price of the seller below for the same coin and grade they have. Theirs was about $100/coin, and I notice they do that a lot on their show, comparing outragous ebay prices and their own inflated prices. Do you think this seller is just looking for a sucker to either buy this coin or offer a low-ball price which the seller would still hugely profit?

That Franklin would be overpriced even if it was a cameo, which it is not. The coin is a $65 retail coin.

I don't think there's a bargain (or fair price) to be had on TV sales shows. But, please, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I keep peeking at those shows every once in a while while channel surfing up in the high channel numbers, then get mad and start telling the TV how wrong/overpriced they are. really aggravates the wife.

Has anyone gotten something worthy and fairly priced through television?

if they are using this as an example my guess is its one of them on the shows ebay account. But anytime you see a outrageous price like that with a make an offer option they are always looking for a sucker or trying to get attention but they are expecting someone to make an reasonable offer on the coin, the high prices just gets everyone's attention

They just put a high price on it to weed out the people who only want to pay melt regardless of the coin. They see 800.00 and they won't even make an offer. That's my theory anyway. Personally, I just don't use the make an offer function. Got tired of the ridiculously moronic offers these people bothered me with. How someone else uses that price point is out of the sellers control.

Not always true. Yes, most of the time they are at or above full retail. For folks in areas that have no stores and few or no shows, the premium is often times worth it. I watch the different shows all the time, and sometimes they have good deals. It does actually happen.

Am I missing something here since Numis has this as a 45 dollar coin, even the cameo is only in the 450 range?

I dont like it for the opposite reason. Too many sellers have it set so that its rejected unless you offer a dollar or two under asking price. If you want asking price thats fine set it for what you want but since most sellers always counter with a higher offer you have to low ball on the first offer to get the price you intended to pay

Billymac, my family got our Roomba (which is an amazing vacuum, by the way; it actually does its job very well and it does it while I do other work which is okey-fine with me) from HSN. It's normally a $500 machine (this is the one downside); we paid $570, but we also got to pay that $570 over six months instead of all up front. It's essentially the same as paying interest on a loan, as I see it.

If we're talking coins only, though, I would say there is no such thing as a good deal because you have retail markup, then prestige markup (they have to keep those fancy cameras and phone lines somehow). Unless you purchase a silver coin for twenty bucks when the bubble pops down to twelve bucks an ounce, and then it rebounds to $30, you will never make a profit.

Yeah I don't think they really have deals too often on there. Most people saw my point that they were using this crazy inflated price to justify their own high price. They do this often on different coins. Not that there is anything wrong with it from a making money stand point, I just wanted to know what other people thought of it.

And I know what people mean with the "make offer" on ebay. That is a joke, since the sellers, as mentioned here, have it set to an automatic rejection or just want to take off a dollar or so. rarely do I find a "deal" that way.

I don't know if this particular account is the shopping network one or related to it because the feedback is quite high, but I wonder if they ever make fake ones just to point out a high price on ebay for their show.

the thread began with the discussion of the price of a particular ebay auction. The sellers told me it was a listing error. Perhaps they wanted $80? They told me they were going to fix it.

A listing error? Funny how it exactly matches the green sticker on the slab that says "800"...

I was going to email them but as barryg pointed out the sticker on the back said 800 so I figured that was really the price they were asking.

There is not a single coin or set of coins that are sold by nay of the shopping networks on TV that is not grossly overpriced. With the exception of slabbed coins virtually all of the coins sold on TV have been cleaned and / or polished. There is no good deal on coins on TV.

That's a shame. Well, I inquired about the issue with the PNG. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.
