Fairly new to currency but am loving it and trying to learn as much as possible. I enjoy the history behind it and expanding my range to world currency as well.
I just got the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money and was surprised that it went back to 1368! Once I saw that I knew it had to be a Chinese note and jumped straight to that section.
But it raised this question in my head of what is the oldest note in your collection? I know not everybody gets their hand on that old of a note but the earliest one I have seen has been from the early 1800's France.

Right now it is 1914. Hoping to get an 1899 soon. I don't really collect anything newer than 1935.

My oldest notes are 1863 $1, 2, & 5 note from the CSA. If you don't count those, then it would be the US Fractional notes around the same time.

I've got a ratty old Series 1886 $1 Silver Certificate. I hadn't planned to collect anything that old, but the price was right and I loved the way it looked.

Wouldn't mind seeing a pic of that Jersey note, Joe! Did it happen to be signed by John Hart, by any chance?!

@Joe2007: For those who may not know, colonial and Continental notes were individually signed by one or more upstanding citizens, to prevent counterfeiting. This New Jersey issue had notes signed by seven different men, in total. One of them, John Hart, also put his John Hancock to another certain document; the one with the original "John Hancock," signed in big letters! Never saw a colonial note up close before that was signed by a Declaration of Independence signer! And this one's in terrific shape! Thanks for sharing!

1923 Silver cert. I've been looking at the 1917 bill. and hopefully down the road ill get my hands on an educational note, most likely the dollar. The 5 dollar educational note is a piece of artwork. Too bad we don't make notes like that anymore =(.

The oldest note in my collection is a Russian 50 Ruble from 1899. I got it for around $5 because its pretty badly stained, but I still think its an amazing piece of history.
