hand selected - I've only rec'd 1 of the 6 so far. still waiting on the 1913 & 1914 $5 and one of each of the $10's I was surprised to see that this coin came incapsulated with a 'hologram' sticker sealing the capsule. I've never seen the mint do that before.

Ya the Mint told me that Hand Selected coins would have the silver hologram and the Premiums would have a gold hologram... that even stops them from being switched between cases. I am still trying to decide if I want a 1913 $10 and 1914 $10... I bought a few of the others, but I wasn't planning on keeping any... now I want to put a complete set together for myself.

Dcadon, that's an awesome looking coin. Maybe, I should get the 1913 $10 to go along with the 1914 I ordered. I totally missed out on the $5's.

Not only to prevent them from swapping between cases but to ensure people don't swap the coins with inferior coins that they already own. ie. taking the coin from the capsule and putting in a coin that have defects and selling on ebay claiming it came from the mint.

A piece of the hoard could have future cache, but no TPG could remark without proof. And a coin in a plain capsule wouldn't have cut it.

It will be interesting how the prices of the hologrammed gold coins compare to the graded ones. Will they sell higher or lower? J&M Coins are selling a 1912 $5 gold MS-60 for $600, a MS62 for $650. The coins we see so far on this forum seem to be as good in quality or better. So would you pay a premium for a genuine 100 year in the vault coin over a graded coin which can be subjective depending on the grading company.

Quote:I think mine was a bit better then the one pictured on the previous page. Take a look at it here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6B...bF9faEU/edit I would also grade that one MS-62, with the lighting I see in that photo. The effigy is quite busy with bag marks, particularly the horizontal sequence of marks below the crown. Photos with flat light might be better, or worse (possibly MS-60) - lustre might help the eye appeal.
